Amref Health Africa is the premier African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa in the intervening years has broadened its mission to include training of some 500 thousand community health workers and managing the design and implementation of health development projects in more than 30 countries across Africa. With a focus on women and children, Amref Health Africa strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, clean water and sanitation and surgical and clinical outreach. Amref Health Africa has offices in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, South Sudan, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda as well as in Europe and North America. The organization employs over 1,000 people.
Amref Health Africa would like to recruit a Knowledge Management Officer for its projects. The job holders will be based in Addis Ababa, Country Office and reports to the M & E and Research Manager.
I. JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the M, E& research Manger, the Knowledge Management Officer is responsible for developing a knowledge management system, supporting Amref projects/programs in harnessing, developing, sharing and effectivly using data, learning and knowledge to improve Program implementation. The incumbent is expected to create a pplatform that make information easily available to staff and users on Maternal, child Health, communicable and non-communicable disease, Water and sanitation.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Develop project-wide knowledge management systems for capturing, organizing and developing information, knowledge and stories from implementation regions, partners and other stakeholders the project works with Conducts knowledge audit.
§ Collect project information from, launchings, disseminations workshops, review meetings, reports, field visits and by communicating with project staffs as well as beneficiaries who want to share their experience and insights. The KM Officer collects the information and structures it in a specific format that can easily be stored and accessed in physical as well as digital.
§ Interrogate existing datasets and M&E systems to identify and collate existing trends in the data Amref holds.
§ Create and implement knowledge sharing tools to communicate the impact of Amref programs work and the difference it makes to a wider development community.
§ Develop Innovative systems and processes systems and processes which help staff to easily access and use data, learning, knowledge (internal and external) and evidence of impact to improve existing practice and to inform decision making, planning, project wide activities.
§ Share good practice from staff and elsewhere with colleagues and other program sister projects.
§ Bring efficiency and consistency in the performance of the project by utilizing the insights gathered and shared with the audience promotes strategic learning.
§
§ Ensure Amref stakeholders have access to the latest project implementation status/information and apply that to improve similar programs and practices
§ Work with Amref program and project teams to develop program briefs and fact sheets and update regularly.
§ Contribute to articles and lessons learned for Amref and donors e-newsletters, websites, and other electronic or print media outlets.
§ Work with project technical and the communications team on events such as launchings, disseminations workshops, review meetings, field visits by developing the messages, press release and brochures appropriate for each event
§ Develop project success stories and learning’s to Donors and other partners experience
§ Clearinghouse, other global health repositories, as appropriate, to disseminate program learning.
§ Write and distribute announcements of major project reports, study findings, and technical events using global health related information sharing platforms and relevant contact information.
§ Distribute print copies of major project reports to the GOE and other stakeholders
§ Work with the project staff to maintain content on RMNCH, CD/NCD and WASH Amref Health Africa and consortium members’ intranet.
§ Work and give an input for the communication and business development as necessary in addition working closely with M and E teams and perform other related duties, as required
III. PERSON SPECIFICATION
A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
· MSc/MA or BSc/BA degree in Literature or equivalent education and work experience
B) EXPERIENCE:
§ 2 years of relevant work experience for MSc/MBA and 4 years of relevant experience for BSc/BA
C) TECHNICAL AND OTHER SKILLS
Required:
§ Excellent analytical, writing, communication, presentation and editorial skills, including desktop publishing
§ Experience in working with national/international NGOs and public sector institutions in Ethiopia health sector
§ Strong written and communication skill in English
§ Unprecedented computer skills
§ Attentive to details
§ Demonstrated experience with Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (RMNCH) projects, WASH is an advantage
§ Experience working in a team management approach
§ Skills in team development
§ Ability to work effectively under pressure
