Under the direction of PHEM directorate, the senior Epidemiologist will support the development and implementation the HIV case-based surveillance activities including planning, training, implementation, data analysis, data dissemination, and evaluation of HIV surveillance activities.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
o Lead the HIV case-based surveillance activities from PHEM side and work on integration of the system with HIV team
o Works closely with HIV team for the effective implementation of HIV case reporting and HIV case-based surveillance
o Participate in technical working group (TWG) meetings and forums related to HIV case-based surveillance
o Participate in the development of training materials and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HIV case based surveillance,
o Provide technical assistance to develop the capacity of HIV surveillance at national regional and lower levels.
o Provide training to EPHI, Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs)/Regional public health institute and PHEM staff on HIV case reporting and case based surveillance
o Follow up collection of quality surveillance data through secured procedure and entry of the collected case report forms (CRF) to the database.
o Provide technical assistance and supervise HIV case based surveillance activities at regional, woreda, and health facility levels
o Conduct periodic assessment of the performance of the surveillance program including compliance with the protocol and confidentiality standards and provide feedback to all parties as appropriate
o Participate in data management, analysis, and dissemination of surveillance data through standard reports and publications, special reports and fact sheets, slide sets, and presentations; and respond to special data requests
o Track the progress and prepare HIV Case based surveillance progress reports to be shared with the EPHI, CDC Ethiopia, and other partners as needed
o Work towards integration of the HIV case based surveillance in the PHEM system
o Collaborate in knowledge management activities to document, share and archive data to build institutional memory as well as to inform programmatic direction.
o Communicate with key partners, such as FMoH, CDC and others on HIV case based surveillance related issues as per the organizations communication policy.
o Perform other duties and/or responsibilitiesMPH, MSc, or PhD in Epidemiology with health background preferably MD
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum eight (8) years of experience in research, survey, public health surveillance,
· Experience in HIV/AIDS epidemics investigation and response is an added advantage
· Incumbent needs to have basic computer skills in Epi info, SPSS, STATA, and experience in database management
· Strong oral and written skills in English
· Previous experience working with the FMOH or EPHI is advantage
· Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all partners.
