Provide psychiatric care to patients according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, mhGAP, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’ health conditions. |
Accountabilities |

• Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out consultations at TCC, prescribing the necessary treatment plan and monitor progress as per mhGAP. • Making appropriate referrals to health facilities, community organisations for patients at discharge from TCC. • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized psychiatric patients, through regular visits and liaison with hospital psychiatrist, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other community shelters or TCC – in fluent coordination with the TCC Supervisor, Psychiatrist nurses and with the MHAM- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution. • Follow up in weekly basis progress of psychiatric patients referred by MSF at community organisations and on-going treatment and make sure the community organization make appropriate referrals when they are discharged. • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood. • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, control his administration and safety storage, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the Project Medical Referent / Project Coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the patients treatments. • Ensure in collaboration to the NTS on-going training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care. • Knows and ensures all MSF medical psychiatric protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times where the psychiatrist cases are treated Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.

He/she will work initially under supervision of MSF Regional Psychiatrist and right after under PMR with close technical advise from MSF HQ Referent. He/she will be responsible for psychiatric care of MSF patients. This will include assessment of patients referred by psychologists, including · Ensure emergency management and referral to psychiatric hospital of patients · Ensure TCC psychiatric cases criteria of admissionis is respected, assessment and treatment of psychiatrist patients in TCC in daily basis. · · Referral for follow-up care of all patients needing psychiatric care ensuring an appropriate treatment plan and follow up at the referral facility according to Psychiatrist prescription. He/she will closely work with MHAM and provide to PMR with all data on psychiatric care required by the project. He/she will provide treatment plan for MSF Psychiatric cases and will be supporting clinical officers,nurses, psychiatrist nurses and TCC supervisor who will be in his absence delivering the care for MSF Psychiatric patients according to MSF protocol. He/she will liaise with Phychiatric Health providers in the city and in the regions looking to have fluent exchange in |
Education | Medical Doctor diploma |
Experience | 2 year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work. Desirable experience in mental health and/or public health. |
Languages | English is essential as well as Amharic. Other languages like Oromifa, Tigrinya are desirable. |
Knowledge | Essential computer literacy (word, excel, power point. HMIS is desirable) |
