Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since beginning it's operation, the organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
Over the past 10 years, SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia (SOS CVE) has increased its effort to obtain financial support through institutional funding. Not only is SOS CVE, through its support offices, engaging more and more in partnerships with donor government agencies and foundations, but it is also working with CSOs to increase local partnerships and grants portfolio. These partnerships are now becoming a significant source of funding for its programs.
The first federation-wide Institutional Partnership Development (IPD) strategy was developed and endorsed in 2010. Since that time, institutional funding market has changed and the organisation’s capacity to participate in that market has grown. The five-year strategic framework (2016-2020) for institutional fundraising takes into account donor demands for innovation and ‘value-added’ thinking, the need for SOS to open further to working in operational and financial partnerships, and the contribution of institutional funds can make to improving the quality of SOS programmes and of our financial and administrative systems.
To ensure the success of SOS CVE in working with institutional donors and partners, a national Grants and Partnerships Strategy will be developed which will be anchored within the regional IPD Strategy 2016-2020 and the federation programme Strategy 2030.
Consequent to this, SOS CVE is seeking a consultant to develop a Grants and Partnerships Strategic Plan, based on internal needs and gap analysis, as well as external assessment and mapping of donor landscape and partnership.
Objectives
The overall objective of Institutional Partnership Development within the SOS is to champion SOS Children’s Villages as a professional social development and humanitarian aid actor, trusted, respected and supported by institutional partners.
The specific objective is to increase both the number of funding partnerships and the quality and size of institutionally-financed projects. This national strategic plan will present a roadmap for achieving these goals while strengthening organizational objectives.
