ROLE PURPOSE:
The Gender-safeguarding Specialist will provide high quality technical assistance to Growth through Nutrition program in integrating gender dynamics in implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning of this multi-sectoral nutrition program. S/he is also expected to lead on the update or development of frameworks and guidance for integrating Gender and Di
versity in line with SC’s Theory of Change and thematic strategies in order to ensure high quality, innovative programming, including direct interventions. S/He will lead on the development and dissemination of a robust evidence based practice relating to gender and diversity that can be used to bring about significant change in the rights and well-being of children. The position holder will actively engage in networking and building relationships with government, donor, international bodies, corporates, other NGOs, networks and others as required to promote best practice for the program.
Under the direct supervision of DCoP, the post holder is expected to meet the child safeguarding and PSEA standard practices across all the project activities. Support and follow-up safeguarding addressed in the activity planning, implementation and regular report update. The position holder will work closely with the advisors and regional team to ensure due focuses given to safeguarding.
In general, she/he will be responsible to assist field offices and country office to ensure compliances are meet through incorporating safe programing practices in all program cycle, facilitate training for various groups, participate in investigation, develop friendly materials and guidelines, monitoring of standard practices of sectors, reporting, data management and share the learnings both in humanitarian response and development programs
Job specific roles and responsibilities
· Lead the gender strategy for the project based on the findings of the gender analysis and experience from predecessor project
· Lead and guide the planning of the gender activities to be incorporated across the different thematic areas of the project including in health and nutrition, livelihoods, WASH and M&E and learning to ensure meaningful participation of women in all project activities
· Put in place the necessary system and developed tools such as guidelines, checklists, to ensure gender is meaningfully mainstreamed in the project activities at different levels
· Develop child-safeguarding messages for various groups, facilitate translation, editorial and follow up the publication process.
· Conduct child safeguarding risk assessment of sectors and high-risk projects collaboration with respective leads and focal points of the country program.
· Facilitate children and adult participation for effective reporting of concern and complaints in collaboration with MEAL unit.
· Report child safeguarding and PSEA incidents in DATIX system timely and assist on the updating the case status. Track the induction and risk status of community based volunteer management and update the progress.
· Participate on the investigation of child safeguarding and PSEA reported concerns.
· Coordinate & conduct capacity building trainings on gender integration and gender monitoring and evaluation, technical approaches, child safeguarding, and PSEA for Field staff, the Management, local partners and stakeholders to enhance quality implementation of the activities
· Create database for risk assessment of projects, periodically monitor the status and generate reports for program managers and SLT update.
· Develop mitigation activities and budget plan for identified risk in the proposal for both gender and child safeguarding activities.
· Provide regular TA for the regional and partner organizations with regards to the implementation of planned gender and child safeguarding activities.
· Identify, plan implement, analyse and share key findings from gender and child safeguarding needs assessment to improve program quality.
· Review and compile reports coming from the field office and ensure their quality before submitted to the donor and other stakeholders.
· Collaborate with different teams and partners working on the project for effective integration of gender and child safeguarding in the project components
· Ensure that program management meets USAID’s programmatic, administrative and financial standards and requirements.
· Represent the organization in Technical working groups, strategic meetings and workshops, with respect to gender integration and child safeguarding.
· The role holder may be required to carry out additional duties with the reasonable of his/her level of skill and experience
· Support the country office audit process on child safeguarding and PSEA standard practices and monitoring the status.
· Seek, Acquire, Develop and Share Gender and child safeguarding tips for staff and partners on monthly and quarterly bases
· Applicants must have a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Gender or Social development and other Social fields and with a minimum of 8 years’ of experience
· Specific experience of working on gender, promoting gender awareness, building capacity in gender and developing strategy and guidance.
