Job Description
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (INGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009.
Currently, with the support of EU Trust Fund, DRC is implementing the Dollo Ado Social Cohesion Initiative (DISCO) project, the Regional Development and Protection Program (RDPP) in Jijiga and the Enhanced Integration of Displaced and Displacement Affected Communities in Ethiopia (EIDDACE) in Shire. In an attempt to address the lack of access to justice for refugees and host community members, DRC forged relationships with the university law faculties to enable service expansion to refugee camps and capacitated those legal aid practitioners and other relevant stakeholders regarding refugee law and the vulnerabilities of refugees.
The aim of the paper is to examine international and national legal instruments to access justice for refugees and the existing legal, institutional and structural facilities for the legal aid service for refugees and barriers. Additionally, the paper should explore measures and initiatives undertaken to address these barriers as well as to provide best practices and recommendations for improving access to justice and legal aid service for refugees in Ethiopia.
