Project Background
Horti-LIFE is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN) and implemented by SNV-Ethiopia in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. The aim is to increase the productivity and food safety in the horticultural sector by supporting smallholder farmers, rural SMEs and supporting institutions. The second phase of the project is (2019-2023).
The goal/purpose of the project is to Increase horticultural productivity via Farmers Field School (FFS) in 44 woreda’s across four regions; Support the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) in establishing a specialised Horticultural Extension System; Train and equip Spray Service Providers (SSP) and Kebele Pesticide Advisors (KPA);Support MoA and the private sector to formalise SSPs/KPAs and to improve the pesticide regulations; Integrate smallholders in horticultural chains via grants to investors who support farmers by improving the access to inputs, services and markets
