WFP Ethiopia is working with the government and other humanitarian partners to strengthen the resilience of Ethiopia’s most vulnerable population and to chart a more prosperous and sustainable future for the next generation. The Country Office also supports programmes that use food assistance to empower women, transform areas affected by climate change and keep children in school. It aims to contribute to Ethiopia’s five-year development agenda, the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), through which the Government combats food insecurity.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
This position is located in WFP Ethiopia Country Office based in Addis Ababa. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Design Manager, Project Manager and overall supervision of the Head of Engineering Unit or the designate. The jobholder will be responsible for the accountabilities identified hereunder.
JOB PURPOSE
WFP Ethiopia is looking for a Civil Engineer with experience in structural design works and Bill of Quantities to work in WFP Country Office in Addis Ababa
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive):
· Plan and prioritize workload on a weekly basis in discussion with the Design Engineer and Project Managers.
· Prepare Bill of Quantities for various projects (Projects cost ranging from $5,000 to $500,000)
· Help the design team in preparing structural calculations and drawings.
· Be able to prepare Structural, Electrical and Sanitary drawings for various projects under the guidance of Design Manager.
· Conduct dimensional surveys and drawings of WFP compounds in Ethiopia.
· Produce site plans, setting out information, as-built drawings and site profile for a given construction site.
· Produce standard Bill of Quantities as per WFP Field Engineering standard.
· Liaise with other WFP disciplines such as ICT, Security to produce up-to-standard Bill of Quantities.
· Provide input into designs including recommendations on layouts, dimensions, orientations, etc.
· Conduct Quality checks in compliance with the Engineering Unit Quality Control manual.
· Attend meetings with clients and other stakeholders to understand design and provide necessary feedback.
· Propose and suggest ideas that can help develop most cost-effective, practical and feasible options for office and other amenities design.
· Provide support in terms of BoQs and Drawings to the Facility Management team.
· Travel to various parts of Ethiopia for providing necessary project support when required.
· Perform other duties as required.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:
· Experience in Civil engineering projects such as Building designs, warehouses, etc.
· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, ETABs, MS Projects.
· Certificate in the related functional area is required such as AutoCad, ETABs MS Project
· Experience in Structural Design is an added advantage.
· UN experience is beneficial
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in Civil Engineering is required.
Experience: Six or more years of relevant progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering and Structural Design related Projects.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.
