The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Assistant Researcher under Bacterial & Viral Diseases Directorate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Coordinate sample collection and laboratory work for the project
· Assist laboratory staff at the sample collection site with the execution of the project
· Work under specific instructions to assist with routine tests, experiments, and procedures
· Develop standard operating procedures for laboratory techniques
· Develop plan for project sample storage and retention
· Perform specialized scientific/laboratory procedures and techniques mainly Real-time PCR
· Keep record of all project related documents in organized way
· Perform routine data verification and quality control, ensuring data integrity and consistency with prescribed study protocol
· Perform project related duties as assigned by the PI
Education:
- MSc Degree in Biological Sciences or Biotechnology; OR BSc Degree in Biological Sciences or Biotechnology AND 2 years of experience on molecular biology techniques
Personal Attributes:
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other collogues
- Ability to set priorities on own initiative
- Experience in molecular laboratory is advantageous
- Ability to work in a team
- Computer literate
