PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In June 2019, Mercy Corps has begun the implementation of the EUR 10 million, 44-month ‘Strengthened Socio-Economic Development and Better Employment Opportunities for Refugees and Host Communities in the Jijjga Area’ program, with funding from the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF). The program is being implemented in partnership with Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
Globally, and in Ethiopia, Mercy Corps is a leading practitioner of market systems development (MSD) approaches to poverty reduction, with particular expertise in implementing MSD programs in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. This program will apply our market systems expertise to refugee and host community contexts in the Jijiga area, with the objective of finding durable solutions to the protracted refugee situation. This program is part of a broader portfolio of markets and refugee programming for Mercy Corps in Ethiopia. The program has three objectives / outcomes:
1. Increase the ability of the local/regional economy to create jobs for various skills as per existing and/or potential economic value chains;
2. Increase demand-driven skills of the labour force in the area of intervention;
3. Refugee and host communities experience improved social integration and access legal rights
Therefore, Mercy Corps is looking to hire a national Intern to support the EUTF programme in the implementation of gender and M&E component the objective of the position is to share updates and activities that will be carried out in a weekly basis/months and Mainstream gender in STEDE activities for targeted areas of the project.
At the end of the internship period, the combined professional and technical skills development plan will be the milestones against which the internship will be evaluated and will be the basis of a strong recommendation letter for future employment. The intern will also be interviewed to assess the degree to which the internship period helped her to achieve her professional goals.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed the following knowledge and experience:
· Have a strong understanding of program management cycle and minimum standards;
· Comprehend the role of all departments in humanitarian, transition and development programs;
· Understand the operational systems of an international NGO in country in implementing emergency programs;
· Be able to write quality communication pieces, and learning products, and to draft specific program management tools;
· Understand relationships with institutional and private donors (including their procedures and requirements) and partners in country;
· Gain a general understanding of local social, political, environmental, and economic issues, a basic grasp of their underlying causes in the local context and Mercy Corps’ approach to addressing these issues.
· Experience in setting up data management, Data filing, Data kipping and compiling, organizing or capturing admin important information.
· Understanding of the importance of communication.
· Increased self-awareness, confidence and assertiveness

· A well prepared report in soft and hard copy
IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum academic score of 200
Completed courses in international development, management, business administration or field related to social sciences with minimum score of 2.5
One letter of recommendation from a professor on the candidate’s academic performance
One letter of recommendation from a non-family member on the candidate’s personal integrity and sense of responsibility.
LIVING CONDITIONS: The internship should be based out of the intern’s home location.
