Background of the Assignment
Following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Ethiopia, the government has been taking significant measures to mitigate and contain the spread of the virus in the country including the declaration of the State of Emergency. Dealing with crisis requires collaborative efforts of all sectors and equal representation of women and men in making decisions. The Government has also taken a significant step to bring women into leadership positions, where women are placed in 50% of the ministerial positions, on par with their counterpart of men as part of the reform. Despite this, in Ethiopia the role and achievements of women have not received as much attention as it should.
In relation to the pandemic, so much has been said about women’s vulnerability and the need to acknowledge the differential impact of the pandemic on women; however, the role of women and their impact in the fight against the pandemic has not received the limelight. EAS as part of its project-Bridge, funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation is planning to produce a gender focused report on responses to COVID-19. EAS would like to produce the report to highlight, document and communicate outstanding success stories of women in their effort to respond to COVID-19 and its subsequent impacts. I t will also aims at popularizing the role of women in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic at all level and in all aspects of life.
The Academy is therefore pleased to invite qualified and interested consultants from Gender and Communication sectors to send their expression of interest to participate in the production of the report.
