The Health & Nutrition Technical Assistant, through daily coordination with SC field staff, will support the effective implementation of Merlin’s programmes in Bale Zone, focusing on the training of health staff, supporting health and nutrition data management and technically supporting the distribution of medical and nutritional supplies to the woredas. To achieve this objective, he/she will be technically supported by the Project Medical Coordinator (PMC), Project Medical Officer (PMO) and other health and nutrition team members and operational staff in Bale. This position will be based in Robe with frequent field travel to the woredas of Guradamole, Dawekachen and Rayitu of Bale Zone.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Organisation of Training & Woreda Capacity Building Meetings:
Take the lead on the preparation, organizing and conducting of all remaining Health and Nutrition basic training as per the training plan.
Lead in the planning and coordination of all refresher training (minimum total 28 days of refresher training proposed)
Ensure completion of all reports for all training, and that all post-training follow-up is undertaken.
Support the field teams in collecting the post training follow up data using the formats and facilitate the compilation of all reports in cooperation with the PMO and HMIS officer.
With the PMO, support the field teams in conducting meetings to strengthen Woreda Health Committees, Kebele Health Committees, Mother Support Groups, and PHEM Management Committees; including organizing the required materials from Robe as required.
Data Management Support:
Coordinate the preparation and distribution of relevant, polices guidelines, protocols and reporting and other formats for each supported site, in close collaboration with the HMIS Officer.
With the support of the HMIS officer, support the compilation and analysis of relevant routine data collected from the field and submitted each month (sentinel surveillance, patient exit interview, FGD, post training follow-up format, etc).
Assist in filing system for all reports, assessments, surveys, and other communications (incoming and outgoing). Organize all hard copies of project related documents and files in their proper shelves and boxes.
Together with the PMO and HMIS officer, support the Woreda based team in organizing their filing systems.
With the HMIS officer, provide support to all upcoming surveys and assessments.
Medical and Nutritional Supplies Support:
Ensure sufficient medical stationary is available for all project activities in Bale and compile requests for purchase of needed medical stationary through the PMC.
Follow up medical supply requests from the Woreda Health Offices, and provide status update to the PMC on a regular basis.
Together with the Logistics Department, make proper follow up to ensure the arrival of goods and supplies ordered by the medical department. Assist in technically reviewing and supporting the receipt and distribution of medical supplies and equipment.
With the PMO, ensure that the Woreda based staffs are aware of goods delivered to the Health Facilities and Woreda Health Offices and follow up its further delivery to ensure appropriate utilisation.
Ensure the proper recording and reporting of actual beneficiaries of CSB and oil distribution.
Coordination and other support:
Take precise minutes during medical staff meetings (internal as well as external) and follow upon action points.
Assist in the dissemination of technical communications (e.g. letters) from SC Bale office to the WoHOs, ZHB and other agencies and follow up on expected feedback.
Fulfil the role of woreda Nutrition Nurses when and if required.
Perform any other tasks as directed by the PMC, PMO and Project Officer.
Job Requirement
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
To be considered for the position, applicants should have EITHER Diploma in Public Health, Nursing or Nutrition plus at least 5 years relevant experience OR Degree in Public Health, Nursing or Nutrition plus at least 3 years relevant experience (in primary healthcare and nutrition projects).S /he is expected to have good command in written and spoken English, Afan Oromo, and Amharic. Use of MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Strong skills in reporting, including narrative writing and data analysis. Experience in routine data collection and data analysis (Excel, Epi-Info or others) including presentation of results, working for a humanitarian aid organisation and establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different disciplines and cultures. respect of Save the Children rules and policies and willingness to work in remote and insecure environments and extra hours.
