Amref Health Africa (formerly African Medical Research Foundation) is the premier African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa in the intervening years has broadened its mission to include training of some 500 thousand community health workers and managing the design and implementation of health development projects in more than 30 countries across Africa. Although Amref Health Africa has been formally registered in Ethiopia in 1998, a full-fledged country program was started in 2002. Since then, the country program has grown from one project in Addis Ababa to over 20 projects in five regions (Addis Ababa, Afar, North Shewa, Oromiya and Southern Nation, Nationalities and People Region). Amref Health Africa Health Africa, Ethiopia is working in health development with the motto of lasting health change in Africa.
We are currently seeking a consultant firm conduct geophysical survey for selection of promising site to drill three boreholes and undertake environmental impact assessment at Dubty & Assayta woreda of zone 1 of afar region.
Overall Objective of the assessment
The purpose of geophysical surveying is to select the most promising sites to drill three shallow wells.
Specific objectives: The main objective of the geophysical survey work is to determine:
Thickness of alluvial deposits,
Thickness of volcanic rocks,
Thickness of weathered and fractured volcanic rocks,
Depth to groundwater,
Indications on water quality,
Select the most promising location for sitting the wells,
Scope of the work
Conduct vertical electrical soundings (VES) about 3 to 4 in number per each site, with electrode separation that will allow interception of AB/2 equals to 500m to 750m.
Process and analyze all VES data with appropriate geo-software’s and tools.
Interpret the analyzed data and produce:
- Geo-electric sections (pseudo sections) across the area.
Resistivity contour maps
Determine zones of shallow depth to the bed rocks
Infer geological structures
Prepare reports in the form of texts, graphs, maps or as may be appropriate with recommendations.
The consultant should submit both raw and processed data.
Submit two copies of the final report and a soft copy to the Amref health Africa.
Job Requirement
The potential consultancy firm is required to meet the following minimum requirements in order to qualify for the submission of proposal.
Previous experience in similar tasks or consultancies; applicants for bid must have experience in water related projects/programs monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment and data collection methods, preferably in a nomadic community setup.
Applicants shall have Geologist/ hydro-geologist professionals with a minimum of Masters Degree in relevant fields (at least the team leader) to undertake the proposed assessment.
Attachment of all supportive documents with the technical and financial proposal is required.
Knowledge of the project area and knowledge of the local language will be considered a plus.
The consultant should be a registered firm and whose license has been renewed for the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
Technical and financial proposals should be submitted in separate sealed envelopes.
