The Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (CISP) (International Committee for the Development of People) is an international NGO established in 1983 in Rome, Italy and currently operating in 30 countries in various parts of the world. CISP has been operating in Ethiopia since 1986 through relief, rehabilitation and development projects. In collaboration with various local partners CISP is actively implementing projects in Ethiopia in the area of humanitarian assistance, agriculture, food security, livelihood, DRR, water and sanitation, education, income generating and other social development projects.
The EC/SHARE project, Building Resilience through Integrated Recovery Support to Drought Affected Communities in Oromia, Borena Zone will be implemented in 30 months and is funded by the European Union Delegation in Ethiopia. It is consortium project made up of CISP, GOAL and ACF. GOAL is the consortium lead. The overall objective of the project is to enhance the social and economic stability in the drought affected areas of Boerne zone through supporting the recovery of livelihoods of the affected population and building their resiliency.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Resilience and Conflict Management Advisor (RaCMA) will be responsible to increase communities’ resiliency form resource-based conflicts and other hazards in the project areas of Borena zone. The purpose of the program is to reinforce the capacities of local government and communities/traditional institutions to improve service deliveries and to promote conditions of sustainable peace and development in the targeted areas and support building of peaceful co-existence among neighbor communities. The job holder will involve in providing capacity-building support for local government partners and community based institutions to facilitate forums and other social events for community engagement in peace processes and empower them for better understand and address the issues that may lead to violent conflict and to ensure that all development and adaptation interventions are conflict sensitive. S/he also involve in supporting local capacity building initiatives in the area of early warning; disaster risk reductions and mainstreaming/integration of cross-cutting issues: gender environment, cross border issues, etc.
Job Requirement
Qualifications:
BA/BSc degree in democracy and governance, conflict resolution, peace building, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a similar field preferred;
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and providing technical assistance to similar donor-funded DRR and resiliency building projects in the pastoralist area context;
Extensive knowledge of improving resource based conflict managing mechanisms, improving communities’ capacity to cope with shocks to livelihoods, and increasing communities peaceful co-existence al local levels;
Experience implementing collective decision-making and alternate dispute resolution activities at the community-level;
Experience working collaboratively with host-country governments and counterparts, local communities, and international donor agencies; EU experience preferred;
Knowledge of the local culture, livelihood and language,
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
Personal Competency:
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems, work in a team environment.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.
Committed to work with rural poor and willing to work under pressure.
Computer literate in word processing excel and power point software packages.
