Cost of Diet Studies in Dessie, Dire Dawa, and Addis Ababa

Currently, Save the Children is planning to conduct Cost of diet (CoD) studies to understand cost and affordability of a nutritious diet. The study will be undertaken in Dessie, Dire Dawa and Addis Ababa. Therefore, Save the Children Ethiopia Country Office wants to hire experienced and competent individual consultant/s who will be responsible to undertake cost of diet analysis. The specific duties and responsibilities of the consultants will be;
Using existing good practice principles to work with the Food Security and Livelihoods team the consultant/s will develop instruments and processes for conducting Cost of diet field work and analyzing Cost of diet information.
lead field work on data collection (or provide active support to field teams during data collection)
Supervise the data collection (including checking data quality)
Lead the COD analysis
How to estimate the proportion of households that cannot afford the diet, and estimate the gap between income and expenditure using HEA data
How to model food security and nutrition interventions that aim to improve the affordability, reduce the cost of improve the quality of the diet using the CoD software.
Be responsible for the tasks specified and for making sure quality of work is done in the agreed time frame
Present and discuss the findings with SCI team and incorporate comments and inputs from the team.
Produce a final report that can be used for programme and advocacy purposes with relevant models that can feed into recommendations/guidance for future programming
Where possible incorporate information requests from other sectors in the data collection and report
Job Requirement
Qualifications, experience and competences
Qualified professional with advanced postgraduate degree MPH or MSc and significant experience in conducting of nutrition studies.
Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
Excellent analytical and statistical skills.
Good documentation and report writing skills
An understanding of and commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values.
