Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia the Project Officer is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.
Main Responsibilities
The Officer should work closely with the Project Coordinator on all aspects of the project implementation:
• Identifying training needs of teachers/instructors, monitoring and supervising them on the Education in Emergency, Accelerated Learning Program and Youth Education Pack Methodologies.
• Supervision and Training of Centre Management Committee.
• Coordination of activities within and between Education in Emergency, Accelerated Learning Program and Youth Education Pack Centers.
• Collecting and compiling monthly reports from teachers, instructors and Center Administrators.
• Supervises and directly monitors sales of skills end products and usage of petty cash.
• Compiling the monthly report to be submitted to the PC
• Liaison with relevant authorities and communities at field level.
• Identification, registration and verification of learners and updating learners’ and teachers’ data base.
• Organizing and conducting training and workshops and necessary in-service training for teachers, instructors and Centre leaders
• Identifying and coordinating centre logistic needs.
• Liaises with the Centre Management Committee (CMC) on follow up of learners and in mobilizing local resources to facilitate training.
• Sensitization of communities, children, youth and their parents.
• Participate in any tracer study and assessments for the YEP graduates
• Any additional tasks assigned by the line supervisors
Performance indicators on which annual appraisal will be based
• All EiE, ALP and YEP centers receive timely and coordinated logistical support
• Timely submission of quality work plan and quality monthly reports and
• Community sensitization meetings on EiE, ALP and YEP activities are conducted
• Up to date teachers’ and learners’ information data base created.
• Routine review meetings organized with Center staff/CMC
• EiE, ALP and YEP Centers Management committee trained and functional
• Tracer, market, follow-up assessments on Education projects conducted
• Graduation ceremonies conducted
Qualification and Work Experience
• A University graduate in Educational Management, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Sociology with having good knowledge of and work experience in finance, procurement, management and administration.
• Fluent in English language
• Good understanding of community development and gender, education issues and/or training skills.
• Familiarity of background from Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) programs
• The Education Project Officer is required to be a team player skilled in participatory approaches and proficient in IT based documentation and report writing.
• Good interpersonal and computer skills (word processing, excel and power point).
• Willingness to work at the project sites, ability to work with a minimum of supervision, exercise judgment, meeting deadlines and work under pressure.
• Experience of working in the area of emergency education, community development and/or humanitarian response NGOs.
