IMPAQ International is seeking a Vocational Training and Education Specialist for the 4 year, US Department of Labor, Bureau of International Labor Affairs-funded exploitative child labor project in Ethiopia. This technical assistance program will address exploitative child labor by helping youth ages 14-17, with a focus on female youth, develop marketable skills to secure decent work that is age-appropriate and serve as leaders in their communities. This project will promote education and vocational training opportunities for youth and also seek to enhance livelihoods and access to social protection programs for youth and their households.
The Vocational Training and Education Specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing educational and workforce related programming throughout the life of the program. He/She will also collaborate with local counterparts and beneficiaries in launching customized vocational training interventions and education assessments for diverse beneficiaries in Ethiopia. The Vocational Training and Education Specialist will serve as the project conduit between local counterparts including government officials, TVET specialists, and educational professionals to build capacity and sustainability of transitioning children from hazardous labor to school and vocational training opportunities.
Job Requirement
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in vocational or secondary education, human services, or other related field;
Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in a leadership position responsible for developing vocational training and/or education interventions;
Proven experience in developing student assessments, teacher training, educational materials/curricula, educational M&E systems, and labor market analyses;
Demonstrated success in managing projects to address issues related to vocational training and secondary education, including access to higher education;
Understanding of special educational needs of youth removed from hazardous working conditions when they enter/return to school or are provided with alternative education services;
Prior experience working with vulnerable youth ages 14 to 17 and their household, preferably in Ethiopia;
Proven track record of working successfully with the Ministry of Education and other relevant government agencies, preferably in Ethiopia;
Strong written and oral communication and outstanding interpersonal skills;
Fluency in Amharic required; knowledge of English preferred; and
