IMPAQ International is seeking a Social Protection Specialist for the 4 year, US Department of Labor, Bureau of International Labor Affairs-funded exploitative child labor project in Ethiopia. This technical assistance program will address exploitative child labor by helping youth ages 14-17, with a focus on female youth, develop marketable skills to secure decent work that is age-appropriate and serve as leaders in their communities. This project will promote education and vocational training opportunities for youth and also seek to enhance livelihoods and access to social protection programs for youth and their households.
The Social Protection Specialist will be responsible for designing and adapting program interventions to provide safety net options for transitioning children from hazardous labor to sustainable employment. He/She will collaborate with senior government officials, local beneficiaries, and civil society partners to promote, publicize, and broaden access to social protection programming. The Social Protection Specialist will liaise with diverse project counterparts to continue and expand the policy dialogue surrounding safety net options, ensuring equitable social protection solutions.
Job Requirement
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, human services, or other related field;
Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in a leadership position responsible for developing social protection interventions;
Proven experience with technical aspects including programs that seek to mitigate the impact of economic shocks, promote equity, and reduce poverty, as applicable;
Demonstrated expertise with projects that promote social protection, improving access to health insurance, cash transfer programs, scholarships, and public works programs;
Excellent understanding of social protection issues in Ethiopia;
Prior experience working successfully with government agencies and private organizations engaged in the provision of social protection services;
Proven experience working with relevant civil society organizations;
Proven track of working successfully with government agencies and private organizations engaged in promoting youth engagement and development;
Demonstrated experience working with relevant government agencies and civil society organizations;
Strong written and oral communication and outstanding interpersonal skills;
Fluency in Amharic required; knowledge of English preferred; and
