SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is a non-profit, non-political and non-denominational international organization. At present it has seven children’s village programmes and affiliated facilities located in different regions of Ethiopia. SOS Children’s Villages provides abandoned, orphaned and destitute children with a new and permanent home. Child sponsorship is the main source of fund. Position summary
The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with academic policies of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School.Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers, academic director, lead teacher, heads of departments, learning support department head, and SOS children’s village.
Priority Tasks & Responsibilities
Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences;
Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, heads of departments, academic director, principal and other professionals in the schools on a regular basis.
Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools, as measured by standards of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools
Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her assigned subject of teaching and school-wide student performance goals.
Demonstrates gains in student performance.
Participates in training and presentations about the particular subject of his/her specialty
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department head, or the lead teacher, or the academic director, or the school principal
Job Requirement
Educational qualification and competency requirement
Education: BA / BSc / BED degree in English language or related field of study
Training: computer training especially on using word and excel
Experience : At least 4 years teaching experience
Communication and interpersonal skills
Planning and organizing
Customer handling
Ability to entertain diversified tasks simultaneously
