REPORTS TO: EPHI Director General/Heal TB Senior Laboratory Expert PROJECT: Help Ethiopia Address the Low TB Performance (HEAL TB)
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: The TB laboratory expert works under and reports to the Director General. The expert is responsible for supporting and advising the Director General’s national TB lab activities to ensure that the effort of EPHI continues in an uninterrupted and productive manner.
Specific Duties and responsibilities:
Provide support that instills high values and continuous improvement standards for TB/MDR TB diagnosis and service delivery
Handle all routine national laboratory program in particular TB/MDR TB correspondence on behalf of the Director General.
The expert will manage the Director General’s schedule, arrange meetings, and inform the Director of necessary follow-up of national laboratory program including TB
Represent the Director General in her/his absence and inform the Director General of outcomes and required follow-up
Support implementation of TB laboratory policies on behalf of the Director General in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of EPHI, while keeping the Director General closely informed of such activities
Develop effective lines of communication for EPHI across partners working in TB program.
Provide regular updates to the Director General on the performance of the National Laboratory System and on the status of the country’s TB/MDR TB laboratory network and specimen referral linkage
Assist Director General with the provision of data and information on the status of the country’s TB laboratory network to others within the Institute, RHBs and the Ministry
Review quantifications and needs assessments for TB laboratory commodities for the national laboratory network and provide instruction as necessary
Manage tracking of MDR TB laboratory supply orders and monitoring of distributions so that proper and timely deliveries are made to all sites at all times
Analyze the pipeline and monitor TB supplies so as to identify gaps, prevent stock-outs, and enable sound forecasts
Assist Regional Laboratory Capacity Building Directorate (RLCBD) on competence and quality of TB training outcomes and works with partners to monitor and evaluate training impact
Assist RLCBD in the development and implementation of national and regional TB EQA scheme
Assist Director General on the coordination of RLCBD regional TB laboratory program support and national TB referral laboratory regional support
Other duties as assigned by his supervisor
Job Requirement
MSc in Microbiology or Clinical Laboratory Science with seven years of experience is required
Minimum of four years of experience on TB Lab program is preferable
Experience in LQMS/SLIPTA program implementation and mentoring
Experience in teaching, organizing and conducting trainings and mentoring
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Can present guarantee.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal English and Amharic, including business terminology.
