DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Digital Illustrator is responsible for: producing illustrations for stories; creating characters, scenes and objects that reflect gender, culture and age for specific text; drawing objects to illustrate vocabulary, communicating with gender and inclusion specialist teams; working closely with language and culture specialists; assisting graphics designers; and communicating frequently with story writers, curriculum experts, and teachers .
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts • Interpreting READ TA graphics needs and developing designs to suit their purpose • Creating illustrations that demonstrate READ TA cross-cutting themes: gender, inclusion and technology • Drawing and printing charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork, using computer • Scanning and vectorizing sketches, illustrations, charts, graphs, etc. for Graphic Designers • Working with a wide range of media and emerging technologies, including photography, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Adobe InDesign • Following up with story writers, curriculum experts and teachers for clear understanding of sketch, illustration, chart, graph, etc. • Submitting finished copy and art layout for approval • Contributing to a team effort by accomplishing related results as needed • Preparing high quality raster illustrations scanned and vectored
Job Requirement
QUALIFICATIONS: • Relevant bachelor degree including, Art/fine art, Communication design, Media arts, Print and digital media management and Visual communication and design or relevant certificate or diploma in graphics design • Proven competence in desktop publishing tools, design and image processing software, i.e., Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw • Two to five years of experience as a digital illustrator, Sketch Artist with demonstrated experience in layout • Accuracy and attention to detail • Fluency in both written and spoken English is required • Fluency in one or more READ TA Mother Tongue Languages is an asset • Extensive knowledge about Ethiopian culture, customs and environment
