JSI/IFHP is working jointly with WHO Ethiopia country office and Ministry of Health to reduce stunting among children under five years of age through strengthening and scaling up the current efforts of building nutrition capacity among health workers, improving Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, and reducing iron-deficiency anaemia among adolescent girls in Woredas with high presence of under-nutrition and anaemia.
The ANI project is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development of Canada (DFATD).
As a part of the project, baseline survey will be conducted to collect information on various aspects of the project from national level to district levels (i.e. 10 Woredas in the three regions of Amhara, Oromia, and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) regions).
Objectives of the Research The main objective of the Baseline Survey is to determine baseline values for key expected outputs of the ANI project. Baseline data will be compared against end-line data to capture changes in the zones of influence over time.
Place of data collection Addis Ababa and Three Woredas (1 per region) out of the total 10 selected woredas in the three regions of Amhara, Oromia, and SNNP.
Duration of assignment: Minimum of 12 days
Roles and responsibilities of the Research Assistants
Read over all data collection instruments prior to training.
Actively participate in the training to be organized prior to deployment for data collection.
Contribute to the refinement of tools as part of the training.
Participate on pre-test of tools in selected sites and generate relevant input for refinement of tools.
Identify study participants as per the guidance provided.
Collect data from defined study participants using data collection tools.
Following comments from supervisor make corrections to data generated from the field.
Transcribe and expand field notes from qualitative data following formats to be provided, if assigned on qualitative data collection.
Ensure vigilant adherence to research ethics as per provisions during training.
Explain survey objectives and procedures to interviewees and interpret survey questions to help interviewees' comprehension.
Ask questions in accordance with instructions to obtain various specified information.
Identify and report problems in obtaining valid data.
Meet with supervisor daily to submit completed questionnaire and discuss progress.
Review data obtained from interview for completeness and accuracy.
Submit all raw data including survey materials, scribbles, expanded notes, records and transcribed information to JSI.
Job Requirement
Qualifications: BSc Degree in health related fields.
Previous data collection experience in nutrition is a plus.
Willingness to work in remote areas.
Local language is mandatory for Oromia and SNNPR (Wolayta) Regions.
