Scope: The Assistant Water Quality Officer reports to the Water Quality Officer, and is responsible for ensuring the supply of potable water to more than 40,000 refugees and host community member in Melkadida Camp. Primary responsibilities include conducting daily water treatment & quality monitoring in the permanent treatment plant; supervision and monitoring of regular water quality test activities; Assist the water Quality Officer in set up of water quality data management system (data collection, entry, analysis, reporting); and conducting regular trainings to build the staff capacity on water quality. The Assistant Water quality officer position also requires proper management of equipment, consumables and other resources under his respected camp and reporting periodically to the Water Quality Officer.
Summary Statement of Responsibilities: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Ensure the daily preparation of Aluminum sulfate & chlorine stock solution with the demanded concentration at water treatment plant.
Ensure dislodging and cleaning of sedimentation tank and flocculation chamber.
Ensure regular Backwashing of Rapid Sand Filter chambers.
Ensure regular cleaning clear water reservoirs.
Organize the laboratory with proper arrangement of apparatuses and reagents.
Ensure the cleaning of the laboratory room, apparatuses and materials.
Supervise and monitor the water treatment chemical operators and water quality data collectors.
Assist the Water Quality Officer in planning, organizing and providing water quality related trainings and preparation of manuals.
Assisting the Water Quality Officer in annual & monthly plan of the water quality activities
Recognize the available & the required apparatuses, reagents and chemicals timely.
Other activities ordered by his supervisor.
Report all the water quality activities to the Water Quality Officer weekly.
Job Requirement
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
Diploma level qualification in Sanitary Engineering,
Water Quality Laboratory technician, Applied Chemistry, Biology, or any other relevant field
Minimum 3 years work experience for diploma holders and minimum of 1 year experience for degree holdres on similar job
Previous experience of managing/monitoring of town water supply
