The Laboratory is expected to and responds to the undressed Market demand for accredited food laboratory service in Ethiopia and the surrounding regions. JOB TITLE: General Manager
ROLE: The General Manager performs Provides leadership to position the company at the forefront of the industry develops strategic plan to advance the company’s mission and objectives, oversees company’s operation to ensure quality service and cost effective management of resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Overall Responsibilities
Responsible for implementing the decisions of the Board of the Company.
Provide leadership and vision to the organisation by assisting the Board with the development of long term annual plans and with the evaluation and reporting of progress plans.
Responsible for managing the organisation and assure its development, with a specific focus on its strategic and commercial expansion.
Responsible for business management, sales and financial oversight and to ensure that all business goals and objectives are reached.
Primary daily responsibilities
Direct the activities and productivity of the entire organisation.
Manage administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the organisation.
Manage financial items/needs to assure the required funding is available to support the daily activities and development of the business.
Personnel management, including hiring, supervision, evaluation and benefits administration.
Represent the organisation to the public, key stakeholders and business partners.
Marketing & sales responsibilities
Define a commercial strategy and planning tailor made for each type of business activities.
Implement regional, national and export services’ sales programs.
Set sales objectives; projecting expected sales volume and profit for each business activity’s services.
Establish and adjust adequate selling prices for each type of services/business activities by monitoring costs, competitors’ offer and supply, and demand.
Prospect new clients.
Work on customer loyalty and customer satisfaction.
Work on a communication strategy and campaign.
Identify and develop the marketing positioning for the organisation.
Plan and implement the annual calendar of commercial activities (events, training, conferences and institutional events).
Develop market research.
Financial management responsibilities
Oversee preparation of annual budget, regular variance statements and annual audit.
Provide recommendations regarding investments and cash strategies.
Provide vision regarding overall financial health of the company.
Provide vision and leadership in long-range fiscal planning to ensure the continuity and solvency of the company.
Provide recommendations regarding effective utilisation of long and short term debt, including refinancing and purchasing/sales.
Implement cost control and cost management.
Oversee fundraising efforts.
HR management
Recruitment and contracting of company staff.
Employee development and training.
Policy development and documentation.
Performance management and improvement systems.
Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting.
Board of Directors assistance, including arranging meetings and agendas, attending meetings and drafting meetings minutes.
Production/QC (in coordination with Technical Director):
Ensure accurate documentation of activity and quality control data and records.
Direct and oversee laboratory activities and personnel.
Oversee and ensure high safety standards at all times.
Direct services activities to insure safety and compliance with quality control standards, regulatory compliance, and lease agreements.
Oversee and/or ensure good housekeeping at site at all times.
Job Requirement
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A competent staff with MA degree in human resource management, management & 4 years related experience or BA degree in human resource management, management & 8 years related experience.
A minimum of five years of experience in business management, planning and financial oversight.
A minimum of five years of experience in personnel management, including hiring, supervision, evaluation and benefits administration.
A minimum of three years of experience working with a Board of Directors and Committees.
Demonstrated ability to work in a proactively diverse and inclusive organization.
Excellent, proven interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise a staff team.
Effective problem - solving and mediation skills.
