Provision of timely quality nursing care to all patients according to MSF standards and protocols, in collaboration with all medical team
Pre-admission of new patients, provision of first aid medications, (e.g., Paracetamol, IV fluid) etc, and calling for Health Officer or MD for further clinical evaluation and possible admission & management
Close monitoring of admitted patients to recognize signs of deterioration in their conditions, or any other significant change (vital signs, urine output, level of consciousness etc) and informs the health officer or MD for immediate attention
Performs procedures necessary for patient’s management, such as wound dressings, urinary catheterization, putting NGT, Last office (for the deceased), while remembering to call for help when not competence enough
Triaging of patients on rotation basis, to establish clear distinction between emergency and non- emergency cases; and together with fellow nurses and health officers, makes sure that severe ones/emergency cases are given priority for care
Promotes & supports the system of individual patient education as part of nursing procedure
Participating in the daily ward rounds in (IPDs, ITFC, ER) etc, with the support from fellow nurses and in collaboration with expat MD and health officers & ensuring that the same are done during night shifts
Checking and recording of vital signs of all patients at least every morning & evenings, (or as required by Health officer or MD)
Provision of prescribed medications to patients (oral, injectables, fluids) etc, according to the prescribed doses and frequencies, ensuring that medical prescriptions are readable, dated and signed; and checking the expiry dates of medicines/ IV fluids before administering
Act as a role model for good nursing care
Registration of all admitted & discharged patients into and from the wards into the admission and discharge book respectively and, ensuring that necessary discharge medications prescribed are provided
Ensures that children are admitted to SC according to admission criteria, and proper registrations are done
Dispense routine medications for newly admitted children into SC
To follow the evolution of the nutritional status of the patients through weight takings, checking for oedema, hydration status etc; and informing health officers or MD of any deviation
To monitor the care delivered by the nutrition assistants and to organise the daily work and dispatch the activities among the nutrition assistants, in collaboration with the head nurse
Proper registration/recording of the diagnoses & patients’ particulars that would be required for medical reporting, as well as documenting all important information about each individual patient
Report to the line managers of the lost/breakdown of any biomedical equipment, for quick actions to be taken
Informs his/her immediate supervisor, the MTL or the Project Coordinator about constraints, problems, rumours of events that could possibly affect the safety of your colleagues and/or could compromise implementation of MSF programs.
Job Requirement
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS
Diploma in nursing with relevant registration with the national nursing authority
Good Communication & documentation skills, able to communicate with patients and their caretakers
Strong professional ethics, with a sound understanding of the need to maintain the confidentiality at all times
Caring and compassionate; willing to be a strong advocate for the improved care of patients
Good representation, disciplined worked attitude, punctuality and ability to work under stress
Previous work experience with MSF, other organization (national and/or international) in a similar field is an added advantage.
