Position Title: Natural Resource Management (NRM) and Climate Change Advisor
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Contract duration: Indefinite period contingent upon funding of CMDRR program
Reports To: Chief of Party
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has worked in Ethiopia since 1958. For more than 50 years, CRS has taken the lead in responding to natural and man-made shocks affecting Ethiopia’s most vulnerable communities. Moving beyond emergency response, CRS’ disaster mitigation and recovery projects in drought and flood-prone areas have rebuilt individual and community assets through non-food aid in the form of agriculture, livestock, health, nutrition, livelihoods support and water and sanitation assistance. CRS has recently been awarded an integrated $6 million USAID-funded community managed disaster risk reduction (CMDRR) project in some of Ethiopia’s most drought-prone and food insecure zones. The purpose of this project is to build the resiliency of communities and local structures to plan for and mitigate the effects of climate change.
I. Purpose of the Position:
The NRM/Climate Change Advisor will lead the integration of climate change activities by providing technical assistance to project staff members on NRM, climate change adaptation and at a national level; climate change policy and land use issues. The Advisor will develop and undertake evidence-based analytics and studies related to NRM and climate change adaptation to inform project activities, contribute to boarder Global Climate Change (GCC) debates and policies. The Advisor will work with other project staff, particularly the Community Livelihood and DRM Advisor to identify innovative, environmentally-friendly integrated DRR/adaptation activities.

3.1 Education: Master’s degree in Agriculture, Resource Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, International Development or a related field.
3.2 Experience: At least five (5) years or more of progressively responsible work experience in technical areas of land management, natural resource management or climate change adaptation.
