Amref Health Africa (formerly African Medical Research Foundation) is the premier African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Although Amref Health Africa has been formally registered in Ethiopia in 1998, a full-fledged country program was started in 2002. Since then, the country program has grown from one project in Addis Ababa to over 20 projects in seven regions (Addis Ababa, Afar, North Shewa, Oromiya, Southern Nation, Nationalities and People Region, Somalia and Gambela). CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL APPLICANTS Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Business Development Manager for its Country office Business Development Manager: ETCE/HR/40/2014The job holder will be based in Addis Ababa country Office and will report to the Country Director. Purpose of the Job:
To provide technical and management leadership to Ethiopia Amref Health Africa Ethiopia activities in Business Development that relates to programme development, fundraising efforts and related programme and research units.
Ensure these functions work as one team and effectively and visibly contribute to lasting health change in Ethiopia.
Optimize the synergy/integration that Business Development has on programmes, Fundraising and Communication functions in order to promote health models that are evidence-based
Promote PPP models and implementation of AMREF corporate fund-raising strategy in collaboration with the communication and fundraising manager under country director’s direction
Coordinate and target visibility actions in order to enhance AMREF Ethiopia’s credibility and to boost the ability to raise funds from diverse sources from bilateral, foundations, corporate, individual donors and the like
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical and managerial oversight in relation to business development of country project activities
Reviewing of project logical framework analysis (LFA), annual work plans, and M & E frameworks and operations research plans within the technical areas relevant for business development and model replication
Ensuring that the AMREF Business Development activities contribute to the achievement of the overall Ethiopia country programme objectives and performance targets through prudent resource management.
Ensure that Business Development activities adhere to AMREF and national strategies, policies, and operational guidelines and protocols.
Packaging for and organizing for dissemination of workable models and up to date information on key changes in health development as a business models related to national and international policies, strategies, and guidelines
Working closely with deputy country director and through programme technical team (PTT) to ensure that reporting standards are met by technical teams with timely reporting to donors and partners
Providing guiding information to technical teams for continued application and documentation of scientific innovativeness in projects and programme implementation
Ensure that projects within Ethiopia programmes define their intervention models with clear information for defining business cases and/or build in health systems research components
Undertake cost analysis, operations and evaluation research for selected projects/programmes for providing adequate information for developing business cases for health interventions for AMREF Ethiopia
Supporting development of systems and tools for project and programme management and quality checks
Carry out trend analysis for AMREF improvement on Business Development
Facilitate the overall growth and development of the programme, jointly with the Country Director, Deputy Country Director, HQ Technical Specialists, Programme Managers, National office (NOs) Programme Managers, and the Project Teams.
Assessing and reviewing the responsiveness of the Programme area towards the Ethiopia Health Policy; HEP; other national health plans; AMREF Ethiopia country plan and the AMREF corporate business plan; and VGC targets.
Participating in the development of concepts and proposals
Presenting key issues, concerns, strategy changes within the programme to the PTT and the Deputy Country Director for appropriate direction
Working closely with Human Resource and capacity building units in building in house capacity for programme design& development, writing and review of concept notes proposals for funding applications, development of project documents, documentation and report writing
Ensuring continued representation of AMREF Ethiopia in key national working groups and platforms
Manage Programme Development Staff and Interns through mentoring and capacity developmentby:
Setting challenging and appropriate performance standards
Promoting staff development to ensure a well balanced skills-set within the complement of staff
Providing feedback to staff on training opportunities to increase in-house knowledge
Carrying out periodic and annual performance appraisals and providing ongoing performance monitoring and feedback
4. Lead Person for Business Development
Working with HQ technical specialists and directors, ensure that the Ethiopia country programme contributes to the overall strategic objectives and outcomes of AMREF
Disseminating relevant information Programme and Business Development to all projects through DCD & programme/project managers
Systematically identify, prioritize, support documentation, and effectively market AMREF’s innovative models that have policy advocacy, scale-up or replication potential.
Create opportunities and mechanisms for projects to learn from each other to foster internal scale-up and replication of effective models within AMREF.
Systematically analyze/interrogate information from external fora (e.g. TWGs, ICCs, conferences) to identify information relevant for programme development and fundraising.
Contribute to fundraising in the following ways: (a) centrally monitor funding opportunities in AMREF Ethiopia’s programme areas; (b) support/coordinate proposal development process for programmes in response to specific calls for applications; (c) review programmatic proposals to ensure AMREF focus, priorities and visibility are adequately catered for; and (d) provide state of the art editorial support for proposals.
Work with the CD/DCD/SMT to identify and create strategic partnerships that will enhance AMREF Ethiopia capacity in research, programme development and coalition building for Health development
Manage AMREF Ethiopia participation in external national and international conferences.
Participate actively in Senior Management (SMT) and Program Technical Team (PTT) teams meetings.
Membership on the senior management team of the Ethiopia Country Office and adhering to the duties enshrined therein
Membership on the programme technical team of the Ethiopia Country Office and adhering to the duties enshrined therein
Managing internal (with other programme managers) and external relationships including those with donors, partners, and collaborators with full involvement of the Country Director and/or the Deputy CD
Provide updates on challenges in programme areas and bring these to the attention of the PTT and SMT
Undertakes other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirement
EDUCATION
Advanced degree preferably in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health or related field.
EXPERIENCE
5-10 years experience in public health programme development and research.
Experience in strategic planning, programme development, and proposal writing
Experience in project formulation and management, including monitoring and evaluation of development programmes and financial management.
Proven track record of identifying, developing, and managing complex multi-stakeholder partnerships and relationships.
Wide experience of current state of knowledge and of issues related to at least one of the programmes and strategic directions of AMREF Ethiopia
Demonstrable skills in leadership and teamwork
Networking skills.
Training facilitation/participatory skills.
Confident public speaker with credibility to represent the organization to senior executives in a wide range of organizations and in relevant national and international forum.
Strong communication skills, with experience of giving presentations, report writing and adjusting communications to diverse audiences.
Experience in advocacy with Government and other partners
Experience of working at an international level
Skills Requirements:
Strong written and spoken English.
Excellent IT skills and proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Databases, and statistical software such as SPSS and STATA.
