Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Medical Education and Training, the medical education advisor will lead medical education activities at schools of New Medical Education Initiative and conventional as per the ICAP-CU program in Ethiopia.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide technical assistance to build the capacity of local universities and other institutions of higher education in all regions of the country • Coordinate inputs to strengthen pre service HIV/AIDS education from technical experts of ICAP-CU, nationally and internationally. Make adjustments to strategies based on lessons learned from early implementation. • Work with local universities and higher education institutes to support application of new teaching approaches into the day-to-day teaching and clinical mentoring of students and to operationalize curricular changes or other educational programs. • Assess the ongoing needs in both technical assistance and material (equipment and supplies) of the institutes and work to meet the needs by using either CU-ICAP resources or by coordinating and leveraging support from other stakeholders. • Provide technical guidance in education and training, performance support and managing, clinical care or workforce development. • Supervise and provide regular support, guidance and mentoring to focal persons identified by the program within each higher education institution. • Develop, adapt and consistently use structured monitoring tools whenever assessing performance or making monitoring visits to medical schools so that findings are routinely and comprehensively documented. • Participate in the development of work plans, implementation and training plans, quarterly reports and other program deliverables. • Monitor program outputs and results related to pre-service education and work closely with M&E department to ensure that these are documented and reported accurately. Compile additional documentation, such as case studies or special reports when indicated. • Maintain relationships with counterparts in teaching institutions, clinical practice sites, government authorities and other stakeholders and advocate for the program. • Model a proactive, problem-solving attitude which encourages teamwork and fosters high motivation and enthusiasm with colleagues.
Lead the implementation of work plans and interventions, coordinating inputs from technical experts from within ICAP as well as from other implementing partners.
Provide technical assistance to NMEI program at MOH
Design and develop strengthening strategies with an aim to build the capacity of national institutions in delivering high quality, competency-based health education that meets the needs of the health care system in collaboration with stakeholders
Support medical schools and FMOH to ensure the delivery of quality medical pre-service education
Work with the FMOH, and other stakeholders in outcomes-based curriculum strengthening and faculty development for medical schools
Facilitate competency-based training in key pedagogic areas like effective teaching skills, student assessment and simulation training
Promote communication for creating a learning environment across ICAP and ensure knowledge sharing across the program
Identify programmatic successes, challenges and lessons learned, and document these for internal use, and external audiences
Job Requirement
Qualification and Experience • MD or related health fields with MPH • Familiar with Ethiopian education system and has experience working with universities • Five years of experience working in teaching
Received various faculty development trainings including teaching skills, student assessment and simulation
Participate in curriculum development and revision
Work with ministry of health in human resource development
• Strong organizational, coordination and planning skills with program management experience • Language requirement: Proficiency in speaking, writing and reading English • Computer literacy strongly desired • Interpersonal skill requirements: Excellent communication and inter personal skills to work in a multi-disciplinary team setup
