SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is a national member association to the International Federation of SOS Children’s Villages. It is non- political, not-for-profit, and non-religious social development organization focused on the wellbeing and development of children. It was founded in 1974 and has been a development partner since then with positive outcomes in the lives of many children, families and communities.
The SOS Children’s Village National Office is looking for a competent and able Education and Training Advisor that meets the requirements stated bellow.
Position Summary:
Under the overall supervision of the Program Development Director/ Deputy National Director, the Education and Training Advisor is responsible to direct, coordinate and advise the effective provision of quality education of SOS Kindergartens, SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools and SOS Vocational and Training Colleges. Following the educational policies and procedures of the country and that of the SOS-Children’s Villages International, studies and submits for approval policies and procedures and upon approval ensures proper adherence to the same by the SOS educational institutions.
General aim of the position
• On the basis of the government and organizational educational policies, regulations and guidelines, prepares SOS-CVE educational policies, regulations and guidelines and presents the same for approval as per the procedure thereon.
• Holds regular meeting with senior staff of the educational facilities to discuss activities, problems, concerns and new ideas to improve quality of education, performance, open communication and cooperation.
• Works with educational facilities to receive timely work performance reports and make use of them accordingly.
Priority tasks & responsibilities
Policy Development, Familiarization and Implementation
• Collects and keeps all necessary government educational policies, regulations and guidelines. Keeps himself/herself up-to-date with such policies, regulations and guidelines.
• Follows-up, collects and keeps properly all educational and training policies, regulations and guidelines of the organization.
• On the basis of the government and organizational educational policies, regulations and guidelines, prepares SOS-CVE educational policies, regulations and guidelines and presents the same for approval as per the procedure thereon.
• Studies problems encountered in the implementation of SOS-CVE educational policies and procedures and propose improvements thereon.
• Provides advices and assistance to projects in the proper application of educational policies, regulations and guidelines.
• Follows-up and ensures proper application of SOS-CVE educational policies, regulations and guidelines.
• Consultative, policy familiarization, and dialogue forums/workshops are organized.
Program Development, Planning and Leadership
• On the basis of SOS-CVE national educational objectives and strategies, studies and prepares for approval of SOS-CVE Management SOS-CVE national educational long- and short-term plans and budgets in coordination with educational institutes.
• Contributes in the strategic plan development of the SOS CVE in general
• Leads and supports the strategic plan development of educational institutes.
• Adequate assistance is provided for the development education programs that can contribute realization of organization mission and for the improvement of education of vulnerable children, families and communities.
• Assurance is made for alignment of educational institutes’ plans and objectives in the program areas with national strategic plans.
M&E Including Implementation of Quality Standards
• Crafts and implements an M&E framework for the monitoring and evaluation of the works of educational institutes and education projects.
• Undertakes M&E activities to support educational institutes.
• Ensures that monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are established to maintain quality standards.
• Working tools and support systems are developed and their implementation is monitored and supported.
• Child’s protection in the National Association is continuously monitored in the educational institutes.
• Supports the implementation and monitors quality management system for educational institutes and projects/programs in line with organization policies, guidelines and standards.
HR Development
• Support is provided to the recruitment and selection process of leading educational co-workers for SOS Educational Institutes.
• Assess the capacity gaps, develops and organizes capacity development events for leading educational co-workers.
• Supports the individual development and career development plans for educational leaders/managers of SOS Educational Institutes in cooperation with their supervisors.
• Supports the performance management of educational leaders in the organization
Operational
• Supports the timely and proper implementation of approved educational plans and budget by educational institutes and projects.
• Visits projects regularly to ensure effective and quality performance by educational institutes and projects.
• Checks and ensures the adherence to educational policies and procedures.
• Holds regular meeting with senior educational staff and other co-workers to discuss activities, problems, concerns and new ideas to improve quality of education, performance, open communication and cooperation.
• Provides, solutions, advices and decisions to problems faced as per the delegation thereon.
• Upholds the rights and responsibilities of staff of the unit and ensures positive degree of staff discipline.
• Holds regular reviews and performance appraisal with all staff of the unit to assess performance and identify areas for development
• Follows-up with schools to receive timely work performance reports.
• Compiles and prepares national SOS-CVE educational work performance reports together with problems faced and suggestions for improvements.
• Performs other similar duties as assigned by the Program Development Director/Deputy National Director.
Competence and educational requirements
Must Criteria
• Education : MA/ MSC degree in Educational Planning and Management or similar discipline
• Training: Computer training
• Experience: 1o years of relevant experience at least four needs to be in school/college and education project leadership and management
(Must-have all of the below or show capability to develop within 1-2 years at most)
