General Assignment: The purpose of the position is to plan, collaborate with partners, work closely with government technical expert and monitor technically the implementation of the crops (staples food, vegetable and fruits) production and irrigated agriculture intensification program of the ACF project at Waghimra, Sekota Base.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1: Develop the understanding of crop production, vegetables and fruit management (food security) in the intervention area
Collect and analyse the target situation on crop production, vegetables and fruits management, rainfall, food availability and access, pest and diseases infestation and other important farming contextual information/statistical data.
Identify the needs of the most vulnerable populations and propose responses to achieve increasing in food and diversified income sources based on improving the existing crop farming system
Disseminate update food security situation of the target area and project activity plan for relevant stakeholders.
2:Implement agricultural activities/crop diversification and small scale intensification/
Lead the implementation of adoption of indigenous and improved crop and small- scale irrigated horticultural development/irrigated gardening activities and strategies of the project in collaboration with other departments/sectors.
Provide technical support and follow up the Field Extension Agents, Irrigation /Vegetable and fruit tree seedlings producer groups and the direct beneficiaries’ at grass root level.
Define implementation modalities (identification and registration of beneficiaries, distribution, training, awareness, monitoring etc.) for the crop and irrigated agriculture diversification program of the project.
Support the FSL PM in developing and preparing monitoring plans and ensure that activities are in line with achieving expected outputs of the rain fed and irrigated agriculture development activities.
Travel frequently to project sites/villages and mobilise the targeted stakeholders and beneficiary communities to fulfil the objectives of the project activities.
3: Contribute to organize technical trainings and sensitization and partnership development
Coordinate and conduct training on vegetable and fruit production, irrigation practices, post-harvest handling and cooking demonstration techniques to target communities.
4: Involve in preparation of project progress reports, analysis and concept notes and Partnership Development
Submit field visit reports, Contribute for preparation of monthly APRs, quarterly project review reports, and technical progress reports to FSL PM on time and as required by the project.
Assist the FSL PM to prepare annual, quarterly and monthly plans for effective execution of the project activities as stipulated in the project document.
Participate actively in the development of a food security project concept note preparation and also technically contribute towards drawing up the final proposals.
Maintain the partnership and linkage to various stakeholders at district and project level- WoARDO/ line offices and other relevant NGOs working in the area.
Work in partnership principle with stakeholders
Take delegations from the PM and act on behalf and discharge the expected responsibility,
Participate on meetings that concern the organization mainly those in Zone, Woreda and kebele ( PA) level
Job Requirement
Education:
Preferably with Bachelor’s Degree in Plant/Crop Science, Horticulture and other related/equivalent disciplines with a minimum of three years of experience in similar Position and NGO work-related experience is an asset.
Required skill:
The candidate/employee should have proven experience, skills and knowledge especially on vegetable and fruit tree seedlings production and management, irrigation, post-harvest handling and other related crop diversification extension services. In addition, she/he will have strong communication, analytical and reporting skills/techniques, capable in organizing project activities and follow up the team. She/he also has to have high level of understanding of Humanitarian working principles and good knowledge in Sphere standards – Best in Computer knowledge – Good knowledge of both English and Amharic (read, written, spoken) - Willingness and enthusiasm for working with rural and vulnerable communities in the proposed intervention areas.
