JOB SUMMARY
Nutrition at the center is a new program, which has been designed based on the knowledge generated from previous CARE nutrition programs as well as food security, water sanitation and hygiene, infant and young child feeding and women’s empowerment. The program aimed at reducing stunting among children under two years and maternal and child anemia through an integrated nutrition programming approach. The integrated approach to nutrition programming includes effective multi-sectoral and cross-cutting interventions in resource-poor settings.
The program’s direct participants are all women in reproductive age specially women with children under two years of age, pregnant and lactating women. The direct participants of the program are estimated to be 67,675 women in reproductive age and 16,632 under two children. In addition, the indirect participants of the program include those household members that live with the direct participants, estimated to be 113,442.
The program focuses on strengthening multi-sectoral coordination at zonal and district level to ensure integrated nutrition programming. It will also use the existing government structures and human resources up to community level to institutionalize nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions: optimal infant and young child feeding, maternal nutrition, improved food storage, high yield home gardening techniques (demonstrations), hand-washing techniques, total sanitation, women empowerment and maternal health. The program will employ basic cross cutting strategies which include social and behavioral change communication, community mobilization, data for decision making, participatory governance and capacity building, in order to improve nutrition outcomes.
The program also requires high level of data driven management system and monitoring and evaluation systems for iterative program and quality improvement. These will help to enhance evidence-based decision making, proper feedback and supervision system and improve ability of learning across programs and countries.
