General Assignment: The purpose of the position is to plan and monitor technically the implementation of the Livestock Development, Animal health and Range land Management related aspects. To assist communities in identifying, designing and developing responses to drought/disaster risk reduction activities in animal health and rangeland management to be based in Kabri- Dahar with travel to Korahai Zone:
Duties and Responsibilities: The objectives and major responsibilities/duties of this position holder include the following: 1: Develop the understanding of food security in the intervention area:
Collect and analyse information on animal production and health conditions of the target area especially statistics on animal production and health, feeding/grazing and other related contextual issues;
Identify the needs of the most vulnerable populations and propose responses to these needs regarding with improving/increasing the target communities in Animal livelihood/farming system;
Identifying the most needy and suitable livestock owners for inclusion in the veterinary components of the Project;
Disseminate update food security situation of the target area and project activity plan for relevant stakeholders. unityn and inetnsification/e preparationlated crop diversification and
2: Implement livestock development and rangeland management support:
Working in close cooperation with the livestock, crop and rural development office of the district and program manager livestock owners identify livestock for vaccines ,parasites and other various treatments;
Preparing and ensure signing of the relevant documents with every livestock owner involved in this Project;
Support in Implementation of the vaccination campaign, deworming and treatment of the selected livestock according to the guidance and supervision provided by the organization and the government;
Maintaining and support treatment deworming and vaccination records on the daily bases in specific registers provided by ACF;
Ensuring all work is carried out according to the highest technical standards;
Keeping the office in charge update with the regard to the security situation in the project implementation área and provide advice as to how to manage our presence in the environment;
Following up all the ACF protocols and regulation according to guidance provided by program manager;
Lead the implementation of the planned animal production and Animal health activities and strategies of the project in collaboration with other departments/sectors;
Provide technical support and follow up the community development Agents and the direct beneficiaries’ activities at grass root level;
Define implementation modalities (identification and registration of beneficiaries, distribution, training, awareness, monitoring etc.) for the livestock and animal health component of the project;
Support the FSL PM and DPM in developing and preparing monitoring plans and ensure that activities are in line with achieving expected outputs of the Livestock development activities;
Travel frequently to project sites/villages and mobilise the targeted stakeholders and beneficiary communities to fulfil the objectives of the project activities.
3: Contribute to organize technical trainings and sensitization and partnership development:
Coordinate and conduct training on modern animal production techniques of the proposed activities mainly in sheep and goat, fattening, dairy, beekeeping and Animal forage development issues to target communities;
Coordinate and organised training of community animal health worker training by the pertinent accredited trainers;
Maintain the partnership and linkage to various stakeholders at district and project level- districts LCRDO/ line offices and other relevant NGOs working in the area.
4: Involve in preparation of project reporting, analysis and concept notes:
Submit field visit reports, monthly APRs, quarterly project review reports, and technical progress reports to FSL PM on time and as required by the project;
Assist the FSL PM and DPM to prepare annual, quarterly and monthly plans for effective execution of the project activities as stipulated in the project document;
Participate actively in the development of a food security project concept note preparation and also technically contribute towards drawing up the proposals;
Conducting both provisionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to ACF and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
Job Requirement
Educational Qualifications and Skills Required: Level of studies: Bachelor’s Degree in livestock and Range land management, Natural resource management, livestock Development, Animal science, Animal Health and other related/equivalent disciplines from recognised college or university, with a minimum of three years of experience in similar capacity.
Required skills: The candidate/employee should have proven experience, skills and knowledge especially on Community animal health training, fattening, dairy, apiculture, and animal health and; Knowledge in rangeland management, feed/fodder management and livestock extension services. In addition, she/he will have strong communication, analytical and reporting skills/techniques, capable in organizing project activities and follow up a team. She/he also has to have high level of understanding of Humanitarian working principles and good knowledge in Sphere/LEGES standards – Best in Computer knowledge, Good knowledge of both English and Somali (read, written, spoken), Willingness and enthusiasm for working with rural and vulnerable communities in the proposed intervention areas.
