Immediate External Vacancy Announcement Organization Background: Nuru International Ethiopia is US based international NGO working to end extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. Nuru’s first integrated development project in Ethiopia began in 2012 in Boreda Woreda, GamoGofa Zone, and SNNPR. Nuru currently works in two integrated intervention areas—Agriculture and Financial Inclusion—and is currently designing two additional impact programs—Health Care and Education—using Nuru’s Program Planning Process (PPP). We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Impact Program Director who can lead all four impact programs in an integrated manner.

POSITION SUMMARY Provide overall leadership, management and general technical direction to all fourimpact programs—agriculture, financial inclusion, health care, and education—ensuring an integrated program approach among all departments and actors. Position will focus on achieving desired results, and ensuring all impact programs are aligned with Nuru’s Vision. S/he will be responsible for overseeing the continuous improvement of each Impact Program, and increasing efficiencies through Nuru’s holistic approach to development. S/he will manage the impact programs toward their strategic goals and milestones, and advise the Country Director in making impactful organizational decisions. Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Impact Program Director (IPD) will ensure a proactive approach to facilitate and enhance program implementation and the day-to-day smooth running of all four impact programs in Nuru’s operational area. S/he will be responsible for managing 30+ staff members and five direct reports, i.e. program and Field Manager’s (FM) who are implementing their respective impact programs. Further, s/he will foster organizational development, promote Nuru’s values and servant leadership culture, promote accountability and high performance, and encourages team creativity and innovation. S/he will ensure all impact programs are helping the rural community realize meaningful choices in order to lift themselves out of extreme poverty in a sustainable way.
IPD Responsibility:
Lead all four impact programs and ensure their activities are implemented effectively and efficiently with a focus on Nuru’s vision and project objectives.
Manage Nuru impact team, set defined expectations, provide leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluate direct reports accordingly.
Ensure programs are implemented according to plans and budgets and those activities are executed in line with Nuru’s key solution criteria (sustainability, impact and scalability) in ways that are responsive to communities’ needs.
Establish and maintain successful relationships with Government Offices (Regional, Zonal and local/Wereda government officials), community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
Contribute to the Health Care and Education Program’s Planning Process (PPP).
Assist the Country Director in designing and implementing a coherent program strategy that is consistent with Nuru practices.
Prepare high quality progresses reports and ensure they are submitted on time.
Ensure program managers and officers are coordinated, integrated and support each other to optimize integrated impact.
Mentor, empower train and build the capacity of your direct reports (Agriculture FM, Financial Inclusion FM, Health Care FM, Education FM, and the Cooperative Expert) both technically and managerially with the advisement of the expatriate team.
Regularly review each program’s activity rollout using SmartSheetTM project management software with each respective programs’ FM and PS to ensure program activities are implemented on time.
Oversee all Impact Programs’ budgets, support budget holders in budget utilization and management in collaboration with the Finance and Admin Director.
Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to ensure that impact programs are effectively monitored and evaluated in order to guide program development and scaling decisions.
Strengthen the quality of impact program implementation by identifying areas in which programs may benefit from technical assistance, professional development, and/or training workshops.
Ensure that each program’s managers prepare clear plans (Procurement, work plan, recruitment plan, budget vs actual expenditure reports, and phased budgets) that are in line with Nuru’s overall strategy.
Improve performance management systems and coach mangers to practice a results based management style.
Takes initiative and holds others accountable to deliver ambitious goals toward ending extreme poverty.
Perform any other duties as required.
Job Requirement
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor in Development, Agriculture, Economics, Management, livelihoods, Public Health, Education or any other relevant Social Sciences fields. Master’s degree highly preferred.
8 years of practical experience in the development sectors, three of which in a managerial role within an NGO Setting.
Good understanding of community development, the poverty cycle, rural livelihood, and NGO program cycle management.
Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial management and budgetary control who values money for the purpose.
Solid project management and administrative skills and experience, preferably in at least two of Nuru program areas within cross-functional teams.
Able to demonstrate servant leadership, a passion for development work, and the ability to inspire others to achieve organizational goals.
Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, negotiation and decision-making skills.
Highly analytical skills and ability to assimilate and process information on a wide range of development issues.
Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
Fluently in English and Amharic is required. Knowledge of Nuru’s operational area, the local language (Gamugna or Wolaytigna) and a firm understanding of rural populations are advantageous.
