Number of Personnel required: 1 (one) Salary Range: USD 8800 to 15,200
Introduction CNFA is an international development firm based in Washington, D.C. dedicated to stimulating sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. CNFA specializes in fostering private sector investment as a means to increase the overall competitiveness of agricultural value chains, expand exports and develop skills in the rural workforce. By generating higher incomes for farmers, processors, entrepreneurs and distributors, CNFA helps improve livelihoods and reduce poverty. CNFA, with a consortium of international and national partners, is currently implementing a five year United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Agricultural Growth Program-Livestock Market Development Project (AGP-LMD). Started on September 17, 2012, the project will run through September 30, 2017. The Project will foster growth and reduce poverty through improving the productivity and competitiveness of selected livestock value chains: meat/live animals, hides/skins/leather, and dairy. The program will operate in AGP targeted Woredas of Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, and SNNPR, to the benefit of thousands of smallholder livestock producers.
The Milk Collection Center (MCC) Specialist will support AGP-LMD efforts to develop a network of 100 MCCs, each equipped with milk cooling equipment and expertise required to effectively manage and maintain the facilities. AGP-LMD will enable these MCCs to test the quality of milk they are receiving, to pay differential pricing based on quality, and to also advise the farmers on how they can improve their milk quality. The MCCs will be able to cool 1,000 to 2,000 liters of milk each. The MCCs will be a combination of new collection pick-up centers and existing centers that will be upgraded to include chilling equipment.
Responsibilities:
Assist with implementation of an intensive outreach campaign to identify dairy value chain actors interested in establishing or expanding milk collection centers including milk chilling tanks.
Oversee implementation of grant project activities to develop MCCs. This includes preparing grant summaries and grant agreements, environmental due diligence and monitoring, and collecting M & E data.
Coach MCCs with weekly involvement in the operations activities of the MCCs during the grant period. This involvement will include on-the-job training, coaching, facilitating targeted technical assistance, and monitoring the success of the project.
Coordinate targeted training and technical assistance activities as required, such as: record keeping, farm business management, quality-based payments, milk hygiene, and embedded service provision.
Facilitate linkages between MCCs, producers, processors, coops, haulers, etc.
