RTI is recruiting for the USAID Ethiopia READ-TA education project, focused on curriculum revision and textbook development. We are looking for proven performance in a variety of areas, with knowledge and experience in implementing evidence-based approaches to instructional improvement. Background
Reading for Ethiopia's Achievement Developed Technical Assistance (READ TA) Project is a five-year initiative to improve the reading and writing performance of 15 million primary grade students in 7 Mother Tongue Ethiopian languages, in addition to English as a second language. Working closely with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Regional State Education Bureaus (RSEBs), READ TA is planning to train 82,000 grades 1-8 teachers in 5 regions (Amhara, Oromiya, Somali, Tigray, SNNP region) on the revised curriculum and textbooks for reading and writing in mother tongue.
To support this effort, RTI is seeking 12 grant monitors who will monitor regional teacher training events. Teacher trainings will be implemented at several venues across the five regions, with various teacher trainings taking place at the same time at the same venue. Monitors will travel to training venues, observe teacher trainings, collect local data, and report back to the READ TA team.
READ TA is seeking monitors fluent in at least one of the following seven Mother Tongue languages: Afaan Oromo, Af-Somali, Amharic, Hadiyyisa, Sidaamu Afoo, Tigrinya, and Wolayttatto.
This is a consultancy assignment with no more than a total of 95 days of labor with planned active engagement in November/December 2015 - as well as February / March 2016. Only monitors who anticipate to be available for 40-45 days during both timeframes should apply.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Actively attend, monitor training.
• Visit teacher training events in one of the five regions during November/December as well as February/March for training observation and data collection.
• Report upon field visits in a timely fashion.
