Employee Position Summary
The health and nutrition supervisor is the key technical person at the district level for International Medical Corp’s Health and Nutrition interventions. The program is designed enhance primary health care and nutrition services. The program will collaborate with implementing partners and Ministry of Health guidelines and regulations, working with the health institutions to increase health and nutrition care access and improve service delivery
The health and nutrition supervisor will be responsible to ensure the achievement of primary health care and nutrition program planned within the project in the assigned location in collaboration with the government health system/facilities (health centers and health posts) and creating community based health and nutrition interventions. The health and nutrition supervisor is the first level focal person to the health and nutrition interventions of International Medical Corps at the district level.
Main responsibilities:
Health program
· Ensure that community level primary health care interventions are implemented as per the plan and local needs.
· Ensure that services and practices are in line with MoH recommended guidelines, treatment protocols and consistent with international standards and best practices.
· Facilitate community mobilization and awareness creation activities and implement appropriate BCC approaches to create demand for PHC services for community at large and in school with health clubs.
· Facilitate and coordinate regular trainings for health workers, health extension workers and community members on various topics.
· Plan and facilitate the indoor residual spray program and also ensure the necessary resources are in place.
· Provide the necessary technical support to HDAs and facilitate training to let them fully engaged in awareness creation, malaria vector control activities and referral linkage through HEWs.
· Liaise and coordinate with government and other partners including, counterparts and CBOs, regarding program activities.
· Participate in planning and attend coordination meetings as requested.
· Represent International Medical Corp at district level meetings and other official forums as requested.
· Oversee routine data collection at health facilities utilizing data collected via facility based registers and data collection tools.
· Analyze and review data with clinical staff highlighting areas where services are improving and providing support where services are lagging.
· Monitor and manage the effectiveness of the program, based on timely completion of program targets and indicators, on a monthly basis.
· Implement other activities instructed by field health and nutrition program coordinator.
Nutrition Program
· Assess the logistic gaps of CMAM and IYCF programs and raise requests for the procurement and monitor up to the utilization of the materials by the beneficiaries
· Plan with HEWs and other health workers working on CMAM for effective, sustainable and efficient implementation of nutrition interventions (CMAM and IYCF)
· Provide technical support to government health staff on CMAM and IYCF through formal training, regular OJT and supportive supervision
· Ensure the appropriate referral system between SCs, OTPs TSFPs and IYCF
· Provide technical support to HEWs on community mobilization to ensure optimal CMAM program coverage
· Ensure the CMAM program is implemented as per the national SAM and MAM management protocols
· Provide OJT to the school nutrition club and provide technical support on IYCF SBCC to the clubs and school mini medias
· Ensure CMAM and IYCF activities have proper records and reports at health facilities and within International Medical Corps
· Promote gender equity and equality through each level of nutrition activities
· Liaise with health, DPPC, Education and other government and non-government offices at Woreda and Kebele Level pertaining to nutrition (CMAM and IYCF) activities
· Ensure the nutrition intervention is well integrated with livelihood, health, WASH and DRR interventions
· Ensure the IYCF activities including CG and PDH are implemented at community level as per the plan and monitor the result of the intervention at household and community level and use woreda and kebele level opportunities for IYCF SBCC
· Provide weekly updates and monthly reports of nutrition programs timely to the health and nutrition project coordinator; and ensure reports reach to MoH through its chain
· Ensure participation of the target community in the program and establishing very good linkage with community leaders and representatives
· Participate in health and nutrition related assessments
· Other duties as assigned
