Abt Associates in Ethiopia is actively recruiting qualified professionals for a new investment program in developing the country’s agriculture value chains. Work is expected to begin in mid- 2016 and will be designed to support the second national Agriculture Sector Growth and Transformation Plan (AGP-II). We are inviting applications from experts and leaders across the agriculture spectrum. Seeking especially women and men with demonstrated experience and training within the following areas of expertise:
Agriculture Crop Production – the agronomy of key national agriculture crops in the different regions of Ethiopia, specifically: wheat, teff, maize, sesame, coffee, horticulture, chickpeas, oilseed, livestock, dairy, honey.
Post-Harvest Storage and Handling – modern harvesting, post-harvest handling, on and off-farm storage, and transport of key commodities with the aim of reducing both harvest and storage loss as well as controlling subsequent threats from pests and disease.
Agriculture Commodity Processing – technologies for refining, processing, packaging and transporting these key national crops, to include processing to meet national and international markets and standards.
Agriculture Enterprise Marketing – commercial operations and marketing, product and market, agribusiness and business planning, especially in the formal national and international agriculture product markets.
Access to Financial Services – work with financial institutions (banks and MFIs) to develop financial products for agriculture value chains; creating favorable policy for fostering access to finance for agriculture production, processing, transport and storage.
Farmer Cooperative Formation and Development – assess organizational capacity using standard tools; design and deliver tailored capacity-building programs for governmental, non-governmental and private sector agencies, organizations, businesses and associations.
Nutrition through Agriculture – deliver improved nutritional outcomes through agriculture value chains, designing nutrition-sensitive interventions, behavior change communications, and rigorous analytical methodologies for evaluating nutritional outcomes.
Gender in Agriculture – mainstream gender in agriculture development programs, especially related to agriculture development, household livelihoods and nutrition, and including analytical methodologies for evaluating gender outcomes at the household and institutional levels.
Monitoring and Evaluation – experience in agricultural commodities analysis and data collection with focus on both quantitative and qualitative indicators, familiarity with USAID Feed the Future indicators is a plus.
Behavior Change and Communications – maintaining aspects of project communications including but not limited to: website development/management, writing/editing project briefs and reports, experience in social media, etc.
Job Requirement
Successful candidates must have university degrees in agriculture, business administration, finance, law, economics, communications, health and behavioral or social sciences; as well as a minimum of 8 years of experience in implementing nationally relevant programs in agriculture for government, private businesses or non-governmental organizations.
