About MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman

The MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman is a consulting firm dedicated to generating access to valuable microinsurance products to 3 billion low-income people across the globe. We accomplish this by working with regulated insurers and appropriate intermediaries who can efficiently provide simple, market-responsive microinsurance products. Our clients include multinational and domestic commercial insurers, foundations, bilateral and multilateral development agencies, regulators, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and others. These organizations work with us to ensure the best potential for success with their microinsurance activities.

Our work covers various aspects of microinsurance product developmentresearch, and advocacy and is guided by our four core philosophies : simple, understood, accessible, valuable, efficient (SUAVE) microinsurance, the “Magical Balance,” local capacity building, and evolution of products; all of these have been built from years of experience with dozens of microinsurance programs across the globe. The ultimate goal is to create SUAVE microinsurance products with value for clients, which represent a business case (e.g., are sustainable) for the insurer and distribution channel. We strongly believe that without good insurance the cycle of poverty continues and sustainable development is not possible.

Our team has implemented microinsurance activities in over 70 countries during the last 20 years. To complete the wide variety of projects carried out by the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman, we also work with a number of exceptional consultants. Our teams handle the project management, accounting, and consultant involvement for all projects. All firm activities are led by managing director Michael J. McCord.
