About International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC or “the Federation”) is the World’s largest volunteer-based humanitarian network.  The Federation is a membership organization established by and comprised of its member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.  Along with National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Federation is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.  The overall aim of the IFRC is” to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” It works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
 
The Danish Red Cross (DRC) has been present in Africa for more than three decades. Currently DRC is engaged in 14 countries in Africa with annual expenditure of approximately DKK 150 million and 35 international staff (delegates). In these countries, DRC supports the Red Cross/Red Crescent (RCRC) National Societies (NS) in the fields of emergency response, resilience building, preparedness, health, psychosocial support, youth action, migration and organisational development.
 
Recently, DRC has established a one Africa region structure with one regional setup providing strategic direction, operational oversight, technical advice, programme coordination, finance, administration, portfolio support to all the country programmes in Africa. As part of the one Africa region model, DRC is aiming to focus and scale our portfolio in Africa to ensure sufficient depth/expertise, volume, maximal impact and cost effectiveness of the programmes. DRC has its main regional office in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and a sub-regional office in Dakar (Senegal).
