Save the Children is commissioning an external consultant and or consult firm to conduct a cross sectional study to assess the referral compliance among caretakers of sick young infants, the barriers and facilitators to compliance, and the care received after referral in Tigray, Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR Regions, Ethiopia.
The study is expected to use both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to answer the research questions outlined under the ‘purpose’ section. In addition to review of sick young infant registration books and related documents, the key target groups included in the study will be caretakers of sick young infants, health workers and health extension workers responsible to manage sick young infants
The consulting firm is expected to fulfill the following minimum requirement:
· Technical staff from multi-disciplinary backgrounds including higher level qualification in the disciplines of public health, child health, epidemiology and social sciences with strong experience in qualitative research.
· Proven expertise of carrying out large scale quantitative and qualitative studies, ideally focusing on maternal, newborn and child health related topics
· Strong understanding of national health system, including the Health Sector Transformation Plan, the National Newborn and Child Survival Strategy, the Community Based Newborn Care Program and the Health Extension Program.
· Teams who have extensive experience in qualitative research with good probing and exploring skills
