Background
Haramaya University is a national leader in agricultural training and research in Ethiopia, and the epicenter of outreach activities in agriculture and biodiversity in the country.
The university has recently won a competitive World Bank grant for establishing an African Centre of Excellence in Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Conservation (Climate SABC). The project is aimed at producing skilled human capital to tackle challenges posed by climate change through quality post-graduate training and research in partnership with universities across the Eastern and Southern Africa region as well as with institutions of higher learning other parts of the World. PhD and MSc students will be admitted mainly from African countries. The project also aims at enhancing and upgrading facilities pertinent to improve quality of education including field and laboratory facilities as well as ICT infrastructure.
To run the project activities, the university wishes to recruit and employ qualified personnel for the following vacant positions. The job descriptions and competency requirements for the positions are listed below:
Job Description
The Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ACE Climate SABC Centre, and will report directly to the Center Leaders. He/she will lead the center's team members and draft all communications for the Center Leaders, including project reports, letters, and presentations. The Project Manager shall also assist the Center Leaders in planning, representing the Center leaders at meetings and presentation, executing project activities, and performing other tasks.
The role of Project Manager is to manage the planning and delivery of projects within the Climate SABC ACE. This will include developing and executing the project plan, tracking and reporting project progress and taking action to balance project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk to deliver projects successfully.
The incumbent is expected to implement and manage the project and all its activities in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders as well as key partners to promote and ensure operational successes. He/she will work closely with administrative units of the university and all project staff.
