The Italian Center for Children Aid (CIAI) is an Italian NGO re-registered under the Charity and Society Agency (CSA) (Reg. N. 1123).
Since its recognition in Ethiopia, CIAI has been closely working with governmental and non-governmental partners in order to improve the conditions of disadvantaged children.
In SNNPRS CIAI is currently implementing Project called “Creation of a safe environment for the children living in GamoGofa Zone” aiming at preventing child migration through supporting the development of the education sector as an instrument to include and retain more children in the school. The Project focus on 1 town and 7 highland woredas of GamoGofa Zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (Arba Minch Town Administration, Arba Minch Zuria, Chencha, Dita, Bonke, Kucha, Kamba and Daramalo woredas), identified as more vulnerable areas for children on the move.
One of the activities of the Project is to conduct a “Research on the causes, effects and challenges of child unsafe migration”. This research will be a tool to achieve the expected results and the final objective of the project, which are mainly aimed at preventing and combating child unsafe migration.
Methodology
The research will be carried out on a sample of villages/towns within the most affected woredas, using quantitative and qualitative research tools.
Part of the study will take the form of a participatory Action-Research involving directly the children participating at the “discussion clubs” in Arba Minch town and at the anti-trafficking clubs in the schools located in the rural villages in the project area, along with street children living in Arba Minch town (who come from the target villages) and highland children who experienced unsafe migration and then reunification with their families.
Profile of the Consultant
The consultant should be legally registered and have renewed license for the current year. The professionals involved in the research activity shall hold a University degree or above on Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or/and related field of studies and should have previous experiences in conducting quantitative and qualitative researches on the field.
The consultant will have to work full time with CIAI during the research period, in order to complete the research within the scheduled time providing the expected results.
The consultant should be able to stay and work extensively in very remote areas of GamoGofa zone, especially during the first two months of the Research period.
The consultant should have knowledge of the geographical zone and previous experience on unsafe migration issues.
The consultant should have experience on participatory Action-Research methods.
The consultant should have a perfect command of Gamogna language.
