Nuru International Ethiopia is a US-based international NGO working to end extreme poverty in remote rural communities in Ethiopia. Nuru is currently implemented integrated development projects in Gamo Gofa Zone, SNNPR. Areas of intervention include Agriculture, Rural Livelihoods Diversification, Healthcare and Education. All four thematic areas work through local Grain Marketing Cooperatives. Currently, Nuru Ethiopia employs approximately 80+ staff at its headquarters in Arba Minch, and project offices in Boreda and Kucha Woredas.
The Leadership program is a unique program focused on curriculum, trainings, capacity building, and improving facilitation and leadership skills of both Nuru staff and community members.

POSITION SUMMARY
S/he will be responsible for overseeing the management of the Leadership Program. Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Leadership Program Manager will work to train the Nuru Ethiopia staff and cooperative members on relevant leadership-focused topics to build effective leaders throughout the organization and the communities in which Nuru works. Further, s/he will oversee that all training and capacity building done internally at Nuru and promotes Nuru’s values, servant leadership and feedback culture.
In addition to training on leadership concepts, the Leadership program team is Nuru’s team of experts on training, curriculums, and facilitation for adult learning. Nuru’s approach to community development involves a large amount of training and capacity-building. As such, the Program Manager will work with technical teams to create and/or improve a wide range of curriculums on topics ranging from project management to maternal health. S/he will coordinate across different technical areas and upper-level staff to ensure all Nuru Ethiopia trainings are implemented effectively and meet the needs of the participants.
Responsibilities
Training and Curriculum
Write and revise leadership training materials to meet immediate and future training needs in the project; make recommendations for improvements and changes to training content, methodology, and framework
Work with technical teams to improve the effectiveness of their trainings and insert leadership concepts into technical training curriculums and materials
Build the skills of the Nuru team in the area of facilitation and delivering trainings for adult learners
Ensure that training activities are consistent with Nuru’s leadership and community development philosophy
Observe and collect feedback on the effectiveness of training content and methodology and make adjustments based on the information
Help develop a comprehensive strategy and curriculum for building the leadership and technical capabilities of leaders of cooperatives Nuru supports
Strategic Planning
Set and achieve short and long term goals related to the program; track progress toward meeting pre-determined program milestones and leadership indicators.
Manage the Leadership program budget efficiently under the supervision of the Country Director.
Create and manage yearly and quarterly roll out plans and oversee monthly and weekly planning for leadership staff.
Accomplish the goals of Nuru Ethiopia and the Leadership program in a sustainable and scalable way.
Successfully manage the Leadership program by making strategic decisions to help the program grow and accomplish its goals.
Develop high level program strategy including, but not limited to, curriculum development, facilitation techniques for Nuru Ethiopia staff, cooperative capacity buliding, and staff development.
Update the leadership logic model to meet current needs and use data and feedback to effectively evaluate program activities to ensure leadership’s interventions are meeting goals.
Collaboration
Communicate effectively with Nuru International’s US-based advisor team to ensure alignment across organizations and best practices are being utilized
Coordinate with all other Nuru Ethiopia programs to create training schedules and ensure they are followed.
Represent the Nuru Leadership program to stakeholders such as the general public, government, donors etc.
Collaborate with M&E and Admin to gather leadership evaluation data
Management
Manage the Impact Training Manager and Leadership Training Officers
Develop the Leadership team’s capacity as leaders, training facilitators, and curriculum developers.
Report to the Nuru Ethiopia Country Director and advise him on Leadership and Training related decisions
Preparation and timely submission of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on the progress of Leadership Program activities.
Field visits
Visit the field to observe other Nuru programs a minimum of two times per month.
Represent the Leadership program among Nuru farmers and at cooperative or other programmatic meetings as required.
Job Requirement
Bachelor’s Degree holder in a relevant field including project management, sociology, social anthropology, education, philosophy, community development, public health or other related fields. Master’s preferred.
5+ years of experience managing training or leadership focused programs or projects.
Certificates in ToT or other training credentials are an asset.
Proven track record of curriculum writing and delivering effective trainings.
Knowledge and experience of using participatory learning tools to make adult trainings effective.
Experience with capacity building and training for farmers and/or cooperative members.
Experience with training in the specific areas of leadership, agriculture, financial inclusion, healthcare, and/or education is an asset.
2+ years of experience managing and leading a team in a professional setting.
Excellent critical thinking skills and demonstrated experience with strategy planning and execution.
Experience in project management, including financial management and capacity-building of direct reports.
Fluency in English and Amharic is required.
Knowledge of operational areas and local languages (Gamugna or Wolaytigna) is advantageous.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to operate in both office and field setting and a desire to work in a rural setting.
Advanced computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, Google Apps, etc.).
Commitment to the Nuru Ethiopia vision of ending extreme poverty in rural areas of Ethiopia.
Basic understanding of servant leadership principles and willingness to grow in this area.
