Field Agronomist (Ref: 2017/HR/VS-001)
Reporting to the Area Production Specialist, the Field Agronomist for Seed Production will be responsible within specified area and crop(s) to manage, monitor and provide advice relating to the specific agricultural aspects of the vegetable seed production to the external growers in order to meet the production plan, providing a consistent supply of high quality commercial or stock seed and ensure the long term profitability success of the organization.
MAJOR TASKS OF THE POSITION
In charge of Execution of the Production Order and Crop Management.
Advises growers on proper management practices in order to meet the production demand.
Assist, advise and supervise in the planting, spraying and harvesting of contracted and company seed production in order to apply and maintain best practice procedures.
Supervise rogueing crews and maintain log of off types removed for proper history and QA data.
Apply and monitor company standards: i.e., isolation, pest control seed purity, germination, disease, pollination and weed control in order to assure seed quality standards.
Direct timely control of specific agricultural tasks, i.e., load/unload stock roots and bulbs, identify, mark and/or destroy pollinator rows, ensure proper quality, identity and proper delivery, insertion of bees, etc..
Evaluate nicking trials, production research trials and all hybrid productions in order to ensure sterility for production technique and yield improvements.
Through continual communication and distribution of monthly reporting, keep the Area Production Specialist informed of on-going crop production activity and problems in respect to field.
Timely and accurate delivery of trial, production and year-end evaluation reports.
Job Requirement
TVET Diploma (or above) in agriculture related field with minimum of 1 year of experience in farming and/or agronomic practices
Experience with MS Office is a plus
Experience in cultivation of vegetable crops is preferred;
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written); sufficient level of English language is recommended.
In the possession of (or willingness to obtain) a motor cycle driving license.
Ability to mainly work in outdoor fields (field environment including heat, dust and outdoor climate) with a minor administrative work.
Willing to relocate within Ethiopia for medium term project based assignments and job requires frequent domestic travel.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) with sufficient level of English language.
