ROLE PURPOSE:
The health and nutrition specialist is a technical post to ensure high quality programming, policy engagement and advocacy outcomes of SC’s work in Ethiopia. The post holder will provide design and support of technical elements of all ECHO and EC funded nutrition and health projects, such as ECHO HIP and EC RESET, with relevant project managers, to ensure the projects contribute to the achievement of the thematic programme plan; be responsible for ensuring that key organisational principles and approaches such as child participation and sound M&E systems are well integrated throughout the project cycle; be responsible for ensuring that lessons derived through implementation of projects are well articulated, documented and disseminated both internally and externally; engage with policymakers and work to achieve advocacy objectives to realise greater change for children.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
This post will be expected to contribute to SCI’s dual mandate and support as needed in both emergencies and development settings.
Program Support
Take a lead and participate in the design of new ECHO and EC funded nutrition and health projects and development of proposals in close coordination with the relevant field, program development, and management staff. This includes all aspects of proposal development, such as concept notes and grant amendments. Ensure that proposals are developed in line with internal and member protocols and technical standards.
Ensure that relevant crosscutting issues are strategically mainstreamed in new ECHO and EC funded nutrition and health projects; also ensuring relevant staffs understand and capacitated to take the issues forward.
Provide technical advice /guidance to ECHO and EC funded health and nutrition team and implementing partners as required while conducting surveys, evaluations and other assessments, including in the design, conduct, analysis and write up of the reports; oversee possible consultancy work in the same.
Conduct periodic visit to ECHO and EC funded nutrition and health project implementation sites to understand the reality, provide on-site advise / technical support and come up with recommendations for program quality improvement
Support / guide ECHO & EC funded health and nutrition team to capture /document program lessons at different levels including design of appropriate tools to gather lessons and project impact.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Post-graduate degree in public health or Nutrition.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in resilience and humanitarian integrated health and nutrition projects management, monitoring and evaluation or research.
Excellent technical skills in the areas and leadership, coordination and management experience.
Knowledge of latest nutrition and health related strategies, technical guidelines and standards in emergency and resilience
Experience in CMAM, IYCF, PHC and ICCM.
Proven experience in designing and management of health and nutrition projects in dryland contexts of Ethiopia.
Familiarity with health and nutrition partners, NGO groups and donors, experiences in EC and ECHO funded health and nutrition projects will be an advantage
Practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in realising children’s rights in Ethiopia, in relation to thematic area
Experience in working with government counterparts and other partners at various levels- federal to district
Experience in quality assurance in a clinical and public health set up
Good presentation and facilitation skills
Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
Cultural and gender sensitivity
Fluency in written and spoken English, knowledge of additional local languages will be an asset.
Good computer skills (particularly Excel, Word and databases)
