OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
I. Background
Since 2011, UNESCO Liaison Office Addis Ababa and The David and Lucile Packard Foundation have been closely working on the promotion of Girls Education, Gender Equality and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE° in Ethiopia. As a result of this important partnership, the policy and practices on gender girls learning and CSE have been significantly improved at the regional and national levels. In order to sustain and scale up the achievements made on CSE, UNESCO in partnership with The David and Lucile Packard Foundation will implement similar project with geographic population focus on the regional state of Oromia. The three-year project mainly emphasizes on the promotion of the CSE in the Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs) operating in the regional state of Oromia. The project is implemented with close cooperation of the concerned regional bureaux, target the 12 CTEs, while soliciting the support of stakeholders, particularly parent and community members. The core objective of the project is to enable young teacher trainees, particularly young females, to acquire the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes, thereby developing informed decision making capacity on CSE and applying them in their institutions and daily life. This is believed to contribute towards a sustainable gender equality through improved girls learning achievements at CTEs and, as graduate professionals engaged in teaching, at public primary and lower secondary schools at large.
Under the overall authority of the Director of Office and the direct supervision of the National Project Coordinator, the incumbent performs the following functions:
A. Planning:
Prepare the detailed project plan, budget and quality work performance documents as per the agreement with the donor;
Organize workshops, seminars, training sessions, liaising with facilitators and resource persons, draft proceedings/reports, etc….
B. Coordinating
Coordinate regional and national level meetings on CSE with stakeholders and institutions;
Facilitate the joint work on the project with the concerned UN agencies for coordinated efforts and better results;
Promote inter institutional experience sharing and learning on CSE and related themes.
C. Project Monitoring and Evaluation
Prepare checklists in alignment with Logical Framework of Action;
Design monitoring plan, prepare monitoring checklist and tools for a regular project implementation;
Provide substantive, logistical and administration support to implement the project and closely work and communicate with Oromia Education Bureau and the 12 CTEs as well as stakeholders
Ensure the timely implementation of intended activities and budget.
D. Reporting, Documentation and Knowledge Management
Draft the project progress reports as per the donor’s and UNESCO’s requirements;
Produce proceedings, articles and brief notes on the essence and progress of the project for the director and also for the UNESCO website.
E. Other Contributions
Participate in Networking and meetings with National and Regional stakeholders to promote and advocate CSE cumulative impact;
Contribute to UNCT activities and in particular Thematic Groups on Education and Inter Agency Planning Taskforce (IAPT);
Perform other duties as required by his/her supervisor.

UNESCO’s salaries are calculated local currency and exempt from income tax.

Job Requirement
EDUCATION
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in Education, preferably Curriculum, Educational Planning and Management or related field of studies, Economics or Social Sciences. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least two years of relevant professional experience in the field of education.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
Experience in team building and management of education programmes.
Experience in project management.
Experience in working with Government partners.
Good computer and other IT skills. MS Office.
Strong strategic and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skill.
Ability to interact with a wide range of high–level partners.
Ability to work in result oriented teams.
LANGUAGES
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, and good knowledge of the local working language.
