The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Researcher II.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Identify problems, design and conduct independent research and/or collaborate with directorate members or other researchers (national/international).
· Coordinate interactions with regional, national or international collaborators.
· Plan, independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of directorate’s goals.
· Collect, verify, and prepare data for data entry .
· Analysis plan and/or analyze data and draft publications.
· Monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
· Help and train new MSc, PhD students in design of wet lab and/or field data collection, laboratory work, and write up of student thesis/manuscript(s).
· Manage and ensure accuracy in log booking daily works, data entry, bio-bank collection, and generating reports.
Education, Experience & Publication Point:
- MSc in Parasitology or related field and 8 years of experience and 9 publication points; OR
- PhD in Parasitology or related field and 6 years of experience and 8 publication points
Other Competencies:
- Clinical research experience
- Working with patient consent and documentation
- Familiar with culture microscopy, molecular techniques (PCR, and rtPCR) and FACs, and additional serology techniques.
