A. Background
Nutrition International (formally, known as the Micronutrient Initiative) is supporting the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia to improve the access and quality of maternal and newborn care services in 185 woredas in 6 regions. As part of the Maternal Newborn Health and Nutrition (MNHN) Care package promotion, the Nutrition International (NI) is supporting the MoH to strengthen the monthly pregnant women conference (PWC) through implementation of evidence informed Behavioral Change Intervention. The behavior change component focuses on increasing knowledge among such mothers, improving health care provider education and facilitation skills, as well as empowering pregnant women and their families with correct information to enable them to practice health behaviors.
The outcome of the monthly Pregnant Women Conference has demonstrated a potential for contributing to the improved access to quality of maternal and newborn care services. In order to strengthen this approach, Nutrition International commissioned situational assessment to provide more detailed background information on the dynamics of the pregnant women conference program. The assessment focused on the strengths the capacity, gaps and limitations in order to come up with recommendations to maximize of the potential while at the same time addressing gaps and limitations of this approach.
B. Objective and planned activities
The Nutrition International plans to hire a trainer consultant to provide community facilitation skills training using the PWC Facilitation Guide (manual). The manual which is in draft form will be provided to the trainer. It is expected that the initial training sessions will provide adequate feedback to help improve the manual in the course of the training.
In addition the consultant is expected to develop a reference guide (brief factsheet on MNHN) using update resources.
C. Qualification
Nutrition International would like to encourage interested parties to bid as teams taking into consideration the different skills and expertise required for a effective training
Lead Team consultant will be overall, and should be experienced in community facilitation skills and expertise in adult learning. Other team members would preferably engaged on the national Community Conversation program for HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Training on Dialogue Facilitation, Participatory methods or qualitative techniques are assets.
Acquaintance with the National Maternal Newborn Health and Nutrition programs
Regional Coordinators supposed to fluently speak and write regional working languages
