Verde Beef Processing PLC is seeking an experienced Project Manager for an abattoir construction project. The candidate will be responsible for the overall construction. The successful candidate must possess the knowledge, experience and confidence to engage and professionally interact with the design professionals, consultants and suppliers while successfully directing the site EPC contractor, and other construction related personnel in planning, coordinating and safely executing the work in accordance with the contract documents, schedule and budget. This individual will work closely with the prime consultant for the project and fulfill an integral role on the project.
Job Responsibilities
You will be responsible for ensuring these projects are delivered on time and within set budget and achieving all project objectives. Some of the key responsibilities include:
Project Legal
· Obtain permits, licenses and authorizations from appropriate authorities
· Management and maintenance of all permits, licenses and authorizations necessary for the construction of the abattoir
Project scope definition
· Collaborate with engineers, architects etc. to determine the general and detailed specifications of the project
· Review the project plans and specifications and comment on the building design, scheduling, possible cost savings measures and potential construction problems
· Organize the project in manageable work packages
· Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
· Preparation of the project schedule
· Plan all manufacturing, shipping and construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
· Identification of major project risks and implementation of a risk management plan
Project Procurement
· Tender Reviews and Analysis
· Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
· Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
Project Finances
· Prepare the general conditions budget
· Maintaining the construction budget and ensuring the project is completed within budget and on time
· Work hand in hand with the company's accounting department to perform the project's management accounts
Project Management
· Overseeing the activities of the project’s site EPC contractor and the on-site employees from notice to proceed, commissioning to full commercial operations
· Monitoring and confirming EPC contractors’ progress and adherence to their respective contracts
· Providing the General Manager with support to including the reporting of progress, support for claims for extension of time and or costs, feedback of data installed on the equipment and quality issues on site
· Actively manage project risks and propose solutions when risks become issues
· Monitor and maintain the project construction schedule on a weekly basis.
· Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings. Prepare & issue minutes of all site meetings
· Inform the Consultant of any errors, discrepancies or omissions contained within the Consultant’s design drawings.
· Expedite all CCN & CO (change order) costs. Maintain current CO logs.
· Ensure completion of and track all independent testing and inspections as required.
· Issue monthly progress draws and invoicing to consultant and client including final holdbacks.
· Ensure that “as-‐built” drawings are prepared on an ongoing basis by all trades during the construction period and issue final close-‐outs to consultant/owner accordingly.
· Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed.
· Prepare and expedite project deficiency lists.
Project Quality & Safety
· Confirm that specific quality assurance and quality control checks are undertaken during manufacturing, testing and erection of major pieces of civil works, structure and equipment
· Promote safe working practices throughout the performance of the works, with particular emphasis on promoting safe working practices amongst the various contractors
· Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues
Educational Qualification and Experience
· BSc/BA in engineering, building science or relevant field
· PMP or equivalent certification will be an advantage
· Minimum 5 Years experience as a Project Manager on new building commercial and industrial projects.
Knowledge required to the job
· Proven track record delivering construction projects on time and on budget
· Experience overseeing the construction programs and interfacing the activities of several contractors with emphasis on providing solutions for mitigating delay
· Experienced interpreting and managing EPC contracts and Purchase Agreements
· Experience of technical and commercial asset management, master programs and interface schedules
· In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles
· Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
Skills Specific to the Post
· Advanced ability to plan, manage and deliver numerous projects.
· Must be proficient in PC applications including MS Office. Familiarity with construction/ project management software
· Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated project management skills, effective negotiation skills and decision-making abilities.
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills
· A team player with leadership ability
· Willing to relocate to Ziway/Adami Tulu
