Solidaridad is a global network organization for international cooperation (non-profit) founded in
1976 and currently operating through ten Regional Expertise Centers in the world. Solidaridad promotes economic and environmental sustainability in agricultural production by supporting smallholder producers to produce commodities in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable manner. Solidaridad Ethiopia is a non-governmental organization registered as Foreign Charity in accordance with the charities and societies proclamation No. 621/2009 of Ethiopia. In textiles, Solidaridad aims to contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth of the Ethiopian garment and textile industry, in line with national, regional and international standards for production.
Position Overview
The Textile Projects Manager, will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of the organization’s textile projects, mostly targeting the Better Mill Initiative
(BMI) in Ethiopia, including the management of all related partners and stakeholders involved in this project. In partnership with the Netherlands Embassy in Addis Ababa (EKN), the manager will be responsible for hands-on management and execution of the related project activities in the textile and garment sector. He/she will maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners, ensure that textile and garment producers and participating partners implement project activities in line with the organization’s commodity Multi Annual Strategic Plan (MASP), Annual Plan and in tandem with the organization’s vision and mission. He/she will work closely with colleagues in the organization’s global network and will be responsible for textile strategy development of Solidaridad in Ethiopia. He/she will report directly to the Solidaridad Country Manager of Ethiopia.
Better Mill Initiative
The Better Mill Initiative aims to contribute to sustainable growth of the Ethiopian textile and garment sector through providing support and technical assistance in sustainable production to textile and garment factories. To this end, the project aims to assist textile and garment factories in the adoption of sustainable production practices in line with international standards through the provision of practical and hands-on training. In addition, the project aims to improve access to export markets through linking Ethiopian factories with international buyers. The Better Mill Initiative will be implemented in factories located in different regions of the country.
